Im just going to start a thread of my progress. I'll try and post some pictures soon but as of now I'm just doing all the crap work tearing down the transom getting it ready to build it into a full transom.

One quick question... What is everyone's thoughts on removing the whole inner wall when I take off the cap? I have seen some people kept the wall and just had it redone. I'm still up in the air on this so I would appreciate any opinions.

Hey, I started a free www.photobucket.com account. Load your pictures onto that site then copy and past on to here. Doing this resizes your photos to the correct size.

The normal confusion about uploading pics into a topic is that you can upload a pic directly into a topic from your computer - no forum is capable of doing that - it's not possible (at least that I know of).
The way forums work is that you upload pics to a photo hosting site (in our case just upload any size pics to "your" photo gallery) and then you post a link to the place that you stored your pics and they show up in your post.
There is a topic in almost every forum, at the top, that explains how to post pics into your post.

Are you referring to a liner?  My 1967 flatback doesn't have a liner.  I know Scott's (gran398) 1973 22-2 has a liner, but it is not a flatback.  Are you sure you have a liner?  I didn't realize any flatbacks had a liner  .

Yes the liner it looks like it will pop free when i get the cap off and what does everyone think the best way to get the cap off is? Would it be easy to just grind through the bolts?

I asked my brother and he said he has seen them with and without it mine is a 71 so maybe it was something they added on around that time.

Ok, I didn't realize later flatbacks had liners.  Learn something new every day.  Since I'm unfamiliar with the liner, I can't offer any advice on removing it.  For what it's worth, my cap is thru-bolted.  The nuts are easily accessible.

First off...WELCOME aboard. New members are the lifeblood of our club. Thank you and all of our new members for joining. You guys lurking....we'd like for you to join too :thumright:

So... down to business

If your boat has a liner (ie smooth fiberglass beneath the deck cap port and starboard) it is a twelve degree  22-2. It is not a Flatback 22-2. We have never documented a Flatback with a liner.

1971 is an interesting year.

Around and preceding that time.. original Flatback production ceased.... and  "new" 22-2 production began. Featuring a twelve degree deadrise semi-V at the transom (not "flat" as in Flatback) and partial inner liner.

But...as we've recently seen...the year of production and year of official state registration can differ.

In order to properly identify your hull...we need pics :thumright:

So please give this a whirl....it's easy.

Maybe im crazy but there is another wall that looks like its going to pop off if I undo the cap and yes it is a flat back it looks just like all the others and the other wall is like a inch from the outer wall maybe you don't call it a liner? I will try to post a picture in the morning so I can be more clear of what I am referring to.

And I take your word for there being no liner over my brothers I'm just confused why it starts to pop out when I undo the cap?

All good :thumright:

Check out the link posted...posting pics. It is really easy....just read it through.

The boys  gave me all shades of chit way back because I couldn't post pics...and I deserved it. I talked the talk, but couldn't walk the walk.  Honestly, I was intimidated to try... and felt stupid.

If an old sombitch finally got it.....I KNOW you can

Post us up some pics! Try and post them tomorrow morning.

Whether you have a  Flatback or a 22-2....what a great problem to  have!!
