1972 aquasport 170 rebuild
« on: November 17, 2006, 01:03:54 PM »
hi everyone, i am new to this site and new to the world of aquasports. recently i purchased a beautiful (in my eyes at least) 1972 17' aquaport powered by a 1985 80HP evinrude. the motor is still running strong and starts up on the first crank without blowing much smoke. the hull had a small hole that was repaired and the work has held up, the deck has one soft spot in it on the port side of the console.  after reading this site i have decided to do a full rebuild. my guess is that since the boat is this old it will need the transom replaced along with some new foam in the stringers. i have worked on boats for the last 10 years but have no experience doing this level of work. am i getting in over my head trying to do this? from the posts i have seen the work does not look all that hard, just takes a lot of time to do. what do you guys think
by the way this is a great site!

Pescador,

I had only done a transom job on 2 boats before attempting my project, and I think that I am doing a decent job (maybe I should wait for Shine or Wart to chime in).  I would say that it is not over your head if you have a basic working knowledge of fiberglass, and you have some decent craftsman skills.

Good luck, and post lots of pics!

Rick
