I passed through Gulfport when I picked up my boat from Tampa in February just to check out the progress since Katrina.  George W was in town that day so all the roads were closed.  I used to go in May for the past few years, take the ferry out and walk to the west end to fish.  My understanding is that now it's a shorter walk!  I wnated to go back this year and use my own boat ('86 Osprey 200) but since I couldn't do my recon I opted for Galveston instead.  Big mistake, but that's another story....  I want to go back to Ship Island this coming May for the great flyfishing.  

What about boat ramps?  I only know (knew?) of the one by the ferry.  I will probably use the campground at the Navy base if there's room.

I used "Google Earth" to get a birds eye view of the island, looks pretty good to me.  I am really wanting to go this month.  I have been going over somethings with my '86 Osprey 200, getting my carbs rebuilt right now, my biggest concern is my trailer. Gulfport is 180 miles from my home port, and I don't have a lot of confidence in the trailer that came with the boat.  Trying to find a used trailer in good condition.  Maybe we could get together for May.

I would like that--providing you're willing to put up with a fly fisher!  I too have Googled the island and it looks good from an angler's standpoint.  I have a 12-hour drive time circle in my DeLorme program and Gulfport is right on the edge.

My next project is posting some pics of my boat once I get it cleaned up, tighten all the stuff that vibrated loose on this last trip to Lake Texoma, add a few gizmos to make fishing easier. and take it to the storage yard.  In early October I'll drag it to Arkansas for a mixed bag of wading for trout on the White River and using it for stripers on Lake Norfolk.

If you get the chance post some pics of your boat, I would like to see how you have your kicker mounted.

I would like to put one on mine, so I would like some ideas.  I have a chance to buy a 8hp johnson in excellent condition for $400.00.

I see you are running a 115, I've got a 150 johnson, I wonder what the weight diff is?

It's still a great place. After Katrina, the sound seems cleaner as far as the mud and silt. the water is clear and greenish/blue again on the barrier islands. Ship island is about 12 miles off shore.

The CCP rides 2" higher with the bracket than it did prior to the change, but the old transom was wet and I suspect rode lower as a result. I had just gotten the boat last year and only had the occasion to take it out a few times prior to the change so I never really got to know the boat much in it's before state. But the difference is unmistakably improved. It now has a big boat feel with small boat maneuverability. Rough water ride is much better and the extra space is a vast improvement. I guess the full transom/bracket is some what deceptive just to looking at it but the bottom corners on the stern are almost out of the water at rest.

I'm coming in rather late on this post (probably because I just joined). I'm running a bracket on my 222 and the wake appears about the same. Some difference can be contributed to the fact that I'm towing a "tuber" but I'd say they're fairly close. I'll try and attach the pic to this post. If all else fails, it will be in the Members PG.
You CCP is what I have always wanted to do to mine i.e. close in the transom and deck all the way back. It gives that extra fishing room these boats lack (IMHO)
