Our summer project was a 1974 Classic 170.
When we started the build, we wanted to optimize the space onboard. So, we did away with the old flip-flop seat and replaced it with a leaning post. The new leaning post can accommodate a 100 qt cooler, has a storage box under the seat and rodholders. Also did away with the railing around the windshield and glassed in and finished the holes.
We did not trust any of the wiring and decided to rerig everything. Went back with with an entirely new Switch Panel, Fusebox, Buss Bars and Battery Switch. All the accessories and lights were rewired.
During this time, we made new cushions for the leaning post and center console. The cushion on the leaning post flips forward with a storage box underneath it.
The Transom was replaced shortly before we started the project as well as the nonskid being resurfaced with Alwgrip. Decking was dry kept in amazingly wonderful shape. The previous owner was a Coastie and kept the boat it in a garage for most of its life.
The motor is an overhauled 96 Evinrude 88 Special. Compression 120 psi. New plugs and cables, new carbs, lower unit gear lube and water pump service in August '22. We put a new Fuel tank in over the summer as well as new lines and fuel water separator.
The electronics we added were a new Boss Audio Bluetooth stereo, Garmin Striker 4, Updated VHF and a New Antenna. We also fabricated a fiberglass Guage Box in order to optimize the space.
We pulled and powder coated the bow railing white in order to give it a sleeker effect.
We pulled the rod box frames, teak rod holders, stepping boards, anchor hatch, center console teak. We sanded, oiled and rebedded it all. We thought about varnishing but refrained in respect to added maintenance.
Original gelcoat was in beautiful condition. We polished the hull, topsides, center console and interior with finesse. Now, we wax them weekly just to keep her cherry.
We added new rod holders, refinished the interiors of the fishboxes and the interior of the center console.
All in all, she has been a delightful project and we'd like for her to go to someone who will treat her like a queen
