175 rebirth
« on: August 25, 2022, 08:06:46 PM »
Just purchased 2000 Osprey 175 for  kicking around our house in Crystal River Fl. No motor. Structure is great for 22 year old boat. Plan ; paint outsides, new GarminGPS, new Mercury 115 Pro XS. Questions for the Aquasport nation; 1: color sea foam or mid night blue?  2: has anyone experimented with engine mounting heights? Opinions? 3: has anyone purchased one of these motors with the larger gear case and found the perfect prop?

1. Midnight Blue..every other boat is seafoam
2. 1972 19’6 115ProXS CT Hydraulic Jack Plate. Love it! Can go really skinny or adjust for best fuel burn with trimming on angle and up down.
3. 14x19 Merc Spitfire aluminum 4 blade.. 6200rpm 43/44mph gps by myself and half a tank of gas. Would like to use Stainless but lots of crap to hit in Lake St. Clair,MI. 4 blade has a nice hole shot for tubing
Get a quote from Bass Pro Shops on the Merc’s. You will be surprised on the “boat builder” rate they pass on to you!
Good Luck

Dark blue huh? Meeting with painter tomorrow I am on with the dark blue, I guess will get painters thoughts. Will need to change Bimini, it is now dark green and the boss likes Sea Foam. Thanks for info on prop sounds near perfect, a lot of rock in my neck of the woods as well. Do you know if anyone makes a SS equivalent? Found the motor for $11500. local, hate Bass pro but will check out.Any body have factory wiring diagrams?

I painted mine gloss black so of course I prefer dark blue! My green Bimini is also sitting in the garage lol! Probably this winter I will  get around to changing it. There is lots of options for Stainless props. I have not owned that many motors so prop selecting is not my strength. Mercury has a prop selector tool on their website that I used to select one. Pretty sure they have a SS choice. So far the motor has been awesome, great on gas,no complaints! Only chose Mercury because of the better deal at BPS. I also only selected the ProXS with CT for maybe better resale value, it was not much more so I figured why not. I think with today’s selection you really can’t make a bad choice with a manufacturer. No OEM is perfect, just my 2 cents. If you request from Mercury they will probably give you a wiring diagram. I will have to look through my papers they gave me to see if I have one.
Cheers T

Back from paint. Went dark blue.will post pictures when the boot stripe is applied. Installed new harness, hydraulic steering, and control cables last couple days. Dropping off at my local Mercury dealer tomorrow and hope to pick up next week with my shiny new 115xs. Then electronics, new gauge panel and sound system is next. Oh re-covered all cushions 2 tone white and tan, looking good, but will not install till all the dirty work is done!

The hull looks great!
If you want to post a pic when you talk about your boat, which you should, follow the instructions here http://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=12725.0  - don't attach them - you are limited by file size. Uploading them into your "member gallery" is better for viewing.
Spend a few minutes to absorb the instructions. It's really easy. Remember if using a phone to take pics, to hold the phone horizontal with the lens to the left.

Sweet! Bet it looks ten times as nice in person. If you have nothing better to do with $200 you can swap out the Mercury Graphics for some better matching colors than the red to match your hull. After market of course. When I gave Mercury a review they wanted from me I mentioned it. A rep actually emailed me back and said he would mention it to the design dept. We’ll see.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. Very happy with motor she will top at 40 + knots on gps and cruise just sipping fuel. Did ditch the green top for a dark blue. Want an electric trolling motor but do not want ugly the bow. So I guess I will need a transom mount. Then turn my focus to my new to me, Intrepid 310WA.
