installing a leaning seat

Steved. I hear your the man. maybe you can help. When we bought this boat (1972 19.6 Aquasport) a leaning seat  was thrown in on the deal. What would be the right way to install this. We're told 2 ways. to just screw it into the floor or to bolt it from underneath?
and thanks for your previous help.

You will find a lot of people on the site with much more practical experience than I have in terms of work on the boat (my bit is trying to put the history together).  However, as a general rule, I would bolt on anything I could, with a good support underneath.

Through bolt it to the deck, use lots of sealant such as 3M 5200 to seal the holes created for the hardware.  If you pull up the center hatch, which is usually screwed down, you should be able to excavate some foam and, get a wrench in there.

After reading the last comment I was wondering if there are different 19.6's because if you lift the center hatch there is no acces under the deck. At least not with mine! So if you need to mount anything you will have to screw it in or cut an acces hole. In which case you could use a round deck plate to cover it up and maintain accessability in the future.

I installed a couple of teak blocks to raise the cooler/seat of my 170.  I had no access to the bottom of the deck, so I fastened them to the floor with lag screws and lots of 5200.....  Rock solid!!!!

I have the floor and stringers out of my 1972 19' 6" but from what I found when I opened her up, most likely the place where you will be putting the screws will be into a stringer.  This means that you will not be able to through bolt very easily and will most likely have to use screws.  When I put the stringers back in mine I will be adding to them to help with this
