Fix That leaking Hydraulic Helm
« on: March 11, 2011, 06:28:23 AM »
A lot of members have hydraulic steering on their Aquas and with time, will experience the dreaded helm "leak".
The most common type of helm is the front mount and seal replacement has been discussed in other sections of the forum so........
I've posted this link to another forum that has pretty photos detailing the procedure from start to finish.

While the article is for the older (1989 back), the newer (1990 forward) is identical except for the seal size.
The older models use a 1" ID-1-1/4" OD while the newer models use a 3/4" ID-1" OD seal.

The seals can be found/ordered from West Marine but I found my older one on line at Amazon.com. WM price about $9, Amazon $0.26 + $5.00 shipping. I ordered 3.

Good luck and clean up that messy helm.
