Removing Moisture?
« on: December 12, 2008, 08:13:04 AM »
A customer of mine in the yacht resto biz bought some calcium chloride pellets from me recently for the purpose of pulling moisture out of a waterlogged compartment in a yacht he's working on.  He said the way he does it is to drill a 1" hole and insert a large funnel full of these pellets in the hole, and overnight it will pull it's weight in moisture out of the compartment.  He did say you'd have to be real careful using it because the pellets (being mostly salt) are very corrosive.

I wonder if it would be possible to do that with our Aquasports?  Seems like it might be useful in pulling moisture out of the waterlogged foam under the floor without having to cut the floor out...

Something me and several of my friends do on our Race sailboats is in the winter (or whenever) and we will halfway seal the boats with a tarp on the top and run a dehumidifier for a couple of weeks or all winter and you can see a difference in the weight from the moisture that is pulled out.  Of course it works better if you can do this in a garage, but it still works in the open as long as you give some kind of partial seal.
