22-2 & 170 badges needed for mold
« on: September 05, 2007, 11:23:52 PM »
Have not been very happy with the quality of the 22-2 badges from the mold I made from a repaired master.  I am again looking to borrow another 22-2 badge to make a new mold from.  Badge should be complete and in good condition.  Will return it to the lender in the same condition I receive it in and will send along with it two new badges.  Also looking for a good 170 badge to make a mold from.

I'll have to take a look but I think the port side badge on my 22-2 is near perfect. Let you know.

Thanks Slippery!

Have had discussions with my mold material supplier regarding the problems with the mold and he's given me some tips on improving the process.  But even with material improvements, the mold can only be as good as the master.  Am not too happy sending out badges that aren't quite up to snuff.

Jim, I used the same material that you use to make the 170 badges I have and I spray painted a set white (used a can of spray paint) and was not pleased with the outcome - bubbled everywhere.  I will try again on another set that I'll really clean really well before painting to see what happens.
The badges I have are not perfect - remember that I had to rebuild mine by hand.

Checked out my badge, the port side looks nearly perfect. It has one very small piece broken off maybe 1/8" of an inch. then some scratches on it from a previous owners dock rash but looks fixable. Are you still in need of the 22-2 mold? If so I can remove this weekend.

Thanks for the offer, slippery73, but hold off on sending the badge.  I've decided  to try reworking what I have here.  If that fails or I make things worse I'll let you know and we can work something out.  Thanks again.

Jim, I haven't logged in a long time. I notice that the 22-2 badge I sent you didnt work out too well. I still have the 2 brand new ones that I bought from Aquasport in 1980 that still haven't been attached to a boat for those just in case moments. If you would like please PM me with your address and I will mail one out to you. Sorry the old one didn't work.

Hi guys, I am getting ready to start my 22-2 project boat and am looking for badges as well. I know this is an old thread but does anyone have them available? Thanks, Rob
