Battery boxes
« on: April 11, 2019, 09:56:06 AM »
Hi all! What does everyone do for battery boxes?  Not sure if mine are original.  I have an 1986 22-2 ccp. Boxes are fiberglass on each side of transom splashwell. The lids look to be homemade and are hideous! Looking for better ideas. Thanks in advance!

Original lids were hinged matching fiberglass with teak wood strip across the top. Sounds like the originals were damaged or lost. Or PO did something weird.

I’m doing an extensive rebuild, so I’m relocating mine to the console.  That’s an option for you too.  There is an advantage in getting them to a dryer location.  You would need to increase cable gauge  to account for the longer run.

Otherwise, you’re probably limited to the black molded poly boxes, custom or rebuilding what you have.

Moving that much weight forward helps too

Agreed.

SOP for 80s era CCPs. Eats up some space in the console and a little trouble to get through the hatch but is a very good mod for these hulls. Also opens up a little more room to maneuver in the transom area for fishing. :ScrChin:
