Looks good Michael  :thumleft:
Are you using VC for paint on the bottom? If so, did you consider running it up the hull sides and transom 6" or so to cover the water line? That's what I did and then sprayed the hull sides paint.  You can see the extra build up along the water line but it is epoxy sealed.

That is looking really nice. The wiring is coming along nicely as well. I'm not looking forward to the longboarding phase. I checked out the pneumatic ones but my compressor doesn't put out near the psi that's required and I'm sure my neighbors wouldn't want to listen to it run all day anyways.

Thanks, Rick.  I considered varying the VMC all the way up to the waterline, but I’m just going to keep it from the chines down.  The hull sides will be sealed with epoxy primer, and Tom at Quantum told me their PU was good for up to a week of submersion as long as it’s cleaned well after.  That’s the longest I’d leave it in the water for Keys trips and similar.  I chose the VMC Performance as much for long term protection where the trailer bunks will trap and hold water next to the hull, as anything.

it gets quite shiny when wet sanded down to 1200.  Mine looks like gelcoat.

After the second coat of primer, there were some almost imperceptible pin holes and a couple of hollows where I got a little overzealous sanding near the strakes.  A little more Awlfair, and the bottom will be ready for paint.

Any progress is still progress.  I got a final coat of primer on the hull bottom.  I need to allow 3 days in a row, so I can get through 3 coats of the VMC Epoxy and wet sanding, so that will likely be next weekend.  I also put some high build on the hull sides.  There are still some areas to fair, but the primer makes it easier to see.  I have to admit, it's still good to see her in solid colors.

Here are more pictures of a white boat bottom.  Only now it's after 3 coats of VC Performance Epoxy and wet sanding to 800.

The paint went on fairly well.  The temperatures were a bit of a challenge, because everything, paint, boat and air, needed to be above 50 degrees.  I managed to get one coat down on Friday and two on Saturday.  I had planned to apply one more on Sunday, but the cold rainy weather ruined that plan.  Oh well, Interlux calls for three coats, that's what I have.  I used a 1/4' nap roller, and with the cooler temperatures, it laid down pretty well with only a slight orange peel.

Truthfully, I would have been ecstatic with the as-rolled-on finish, if I had rolled it on from under the boat.  But, since the boat is upside down, I'm wet sanding.  I got it down to 800 grit all over, and I'm moving up to 1000 and 1500.

I'm sure I will have that "how smooth is smooth enough" battle when I get to that point!

Looks good Michael - nice job and lots of shine  :c029: and not a ton of effort with an air DA.  Mike you'll be surprised how smooth and glassy it'll be when you wet sand it and the good thing is it's not gelcoat so it should never dull out.  We'll see over time.

. . . . . and not a ton of effort with an air DA.

A lot less effort than pushing a long board. :singing:

After wet sanding to 1500 and a bit of polish, the bottom looks great, not perfect, but good enough for the bottom.  Now, I'm on to fairing the hull sides. :woohoo: More time on the longboard.
