Decal Removal

Any idea how they removed the pinstripe and decals (at least the sticky portion), specifically? If anyone has gone down this path appreciate an abbreviated "how to", or as long as you care to explain. Thanks

I used to be in the sign industry. WD-40 can work wonders removing residue or try rapid remover. Just put it on and let it sit for a couple minutes and the residue will wipe away. You may need to do it a couple times to remove old residue.

Goo Gone also, I haven't seen an adhesive it won't remove.

I saw in Boating magazine a product called DeBond "Marine Formula".  They tested it to break the bond of 5200 and remove it's residue and gum and they rated it best.
I haven't tried it yet but if I need to do something heavy duty, this will be one I try.

Heat gun set on low and at least a foot away from the hull then once the decal starts to lift use goo gone to remove the adhesive.

I have removed my share of vinyl graphics at work.  The best way to remove them by a WIDE margin is by using a vinyl graphics eraser. 3M makes them along with many other companies.  It's basically a 5" diameter wheel made of soft gum type rubber.  You chuck it up in a drill or a special air tool and go to town.  It rubs off not only the vinyl film but the adhesive too.  It gets a tad warm while using it so that helps.  It works really good especially on old dried out graphics that are impossible to peel off. 

If you have just adhesive left over there is a citrus based made just for the sign industry called Rapid Tac.  This stuff works wonders.  You can order it online.  Or look for a local sign shop supplier and they will have it.  http://www.rapidtac.com/rapid-remover.html

Plus 1 for the 3m eraser. I stripped the decals of my outboard cowling in about 30 minutes flat.
