Fuel line replacement info please

Ive got a 2000 Aquasport 215 Explorer with a merc 2 stroke 200 SW carbed that i was going to take out yesterday and was unable to. It was very difficult to get the primer bulb firm and having someone pump it while cranking her over, she would catch, reluctantly, and when it did, i would bring the idle up, it would stall. Could not get even a 2 second idle. I just had her out a week or so ago and she was fine. I'm pretty certain i've got fuel line issues and am thinking it might be a good idea just to replace them all. It was doing the same thing a year or so ago and found that replacement of the primer bulb fixed that . Tho it only looked mildly cracked, it was leaking. These lines are at least 5 if not 7 years old and looking pretty ill. most certainly the exposed lines.......Anyway, any suggestions or links of diagrams for these being replaced would be greatly appreciated

I'd take a look at the anti-siphon valve in the tank pickup this time around.
You replaced/added new filters back then also so the valve is a good starting point.

Pull the fuel hose from the primer valve on the outlet side.
A few squeezes will confirm/deny flow.
Pull off inlet side and squeeze to confirm bulb still works.

If the primer bulb is good, then the valve may have picked up crap from the tank and is now restricting flow. You'll need to remove it from the tank pick up tube to confirm.

Let me see if I can find something on that here.

Thanks Bob. I suspect I can find that under the pie hole in the middle of my deck, right? Bulb appears good, I'll replace the anti siphon and see if she fires up.

If the fuel line is old, it could be subject to cracking, particularly at the ends (sucking air). Could also be suspect from ethanol.  Use the old line as a pull for the new one.

You can run it on an auxiliary tank just to make sure it's the lines and not the motor. . The anti siphon can be knocked apart as the ball spring is just press fitted in there. Did that with a Phillips screw driver way out deep once and was able to get home.

Ya, I was going to run a auxiliary tank this morning. 100 degrees today. Boat is is in direct sun. Ugh! Difficult to do much in the heat of the day. I checked the primer bulb last night. Working good. Couldn't find anti siphon valve. Where is it located?

This is the pick up tube that goes into your fuel tank. You may or may not have an "anti-siphon device" inside that 90 degree bend. You may also have or have not, the shut off valve that is shown in this photo. The anti-siphon device is not located in that shut off valve.

This spring and ball will be located in the tank pick up el (not the barbed end or shut off that the fuel line is attached to). You will need to remove the barb and or shut off and then can finagle the spring and ball out of the el.
Remember, you may not have this device at all but it pays to check. We have had a few that have clogged over time (myself included).

The location of your pick up is probably accessed through a deck plate over the tank. I'm not sure I have a pic of a 215 EX to show you but I'd bet you will find it.

Lastly, if you choose to replace the fuel line, be aware that it may pass through a bulkhead and/or that it could also be supported along the way(to limit vibrations/chaffing to the line) as it traverses from the tank to the stern. You may encounter difficulty using the old line to pull the new. Again I'm not familiar with the 215 routing so this is just meant as a "heads up". The line on my 91 WAC did both.

Funny how this showed up today. I am getting closer (I hope) to figurung out my everpresent fuel problems. I have finally eliminated the source of water intursion. I replaced the filler cap and added a separate vent. I covered the sending unit with liquid electrical tape. ( a great product for that application) So... no water in fuel. I replaced the racor with a Marpac water separator with the clear compartment so i can actually see the filter element inside. Well, i still have the same symptoms as always. Motor runs great and then eventually bogs down over 4200 and then gets progressively worse. WIth the new filter i found out that the fuel will leave the filter faster than it is replaced from the tank, to the point we were running and it was below the element. Of course then it starts bogging. After a while idling back to the ramp i noticed it was back full again.
Guess i need to check the fuel pickup, anti-syphon for any trash in it.

Well, it appears you solved your water intrusion problem but sounds like a flow problem indeed. Could be something stuck in the anti-siphon device (again if you have one), the pick up tube itself or may be a fuel pump issue.
Hopefully it is a "device" issue and is an inexpensive fix.

Started right up with auxiliary tank. Here's a pic of what you described to me Bob. How the heck am I suppose to disconnect this 90 degree brass fitting, disconnect the hose behined it, to get to the anti siphon valve. Seems challenging if not near impossible[img][/img]

For a moment there I was looking at that picture and I was wondering "what 90 degree fitting? all I see is the fill hose"  Then I looked closer   OMG!   If you ever have to replace your sender you in for a treat!  

Question:  What size is the access plate?  You may have to remove it and go to the next size up.  That is crazy that a manufacturer is allowed to do something like that!

Well,
You appear to be between a rock and a hard on (name the movie) but first....

Let's try something that might rule out an anti-siphon valve.

Once again, disconnect the fuel line before the primer bulb and try blowing back into the tank.
If air makes its way back, you may be in luck but I'm guessing your tank is new enough that it probably came with one.
Still, you never know till you try. Also, there could be crap in the tank that has blocked the bottom of the pick up tube.

If you manage to force air back into the tank, it may only result in a temporary fix and the tube itself may also need replacing along with a good tank cleaning.

If still no luck, I can only see Wing's approach in opening the access plate to a larger size.

Great. We're getting somewhere. Not pretty. Please help me answer a few questions. First, tho my gas gauge says theirs a quarter tank, I may very well be empty, or very near empty, so,
1) how can i physically check my gas?
2) If one decided they wanted there tank cleaned, what is the procedure?
3) If I did need to widen that 10"pie hole, what is the procedure.?

I'm thinking that i may be able to use a hole saw right about that elbow, cut the hose, use a wrench from the side and pull it straight up. Then use/make some sort of gusset to cover the hole. Water tight, not that thats all important, but doable. Just need to lay flat as possible so's to not create a tripping hazzard

Also, i'll blow back through the line first, then I may try a compressor. Yes, no?

1)  Pull the sender and drop a stick in and see how much is there.

2)  There are fuel polishing companies or find some one that has the equipment.

3)  Rotozip a bigger plate in. Do you have a pic back away from the pie plate so we can see where this is located?

Do you know if you have a water separating fuel filter? If you do, change the filter before you go any further.
