19 6 throttle/shift cable lengths?
« on: February 21, 2014, 11:06:11 AM »
can any 19 6 experts tell me the length of these cables from console to engine, running through the floor channel?.....the ones on the boat now are running from the console, directly to the motor across the top of the floor(previous owner replaced motor on boat and used the new motors cables and side mount remote control, so I cant go by their length).....thnx!

I'd be willing to bet 20 footers.  3' from the binnacle to the rigging trough, 3' from the console to the turn in the trough aft, 8' back to the starboard corner, then another 6' to make the turn to the motor and have a nice loop before entering the lower pan...

My 82 19-6 's cables measured out at 18 feet, when I rebuilt the floor and put the cables in a tube out the console floor and under the floor to the starboard stern side exit then to the motor they just barely made it...they were plenty long while in the trough... :thumright:

I'd bet the extra 2 ft from 18-20 would help to make the turn outside the console and into the back of the the side mount controls.  Binnacle style bottom-mount controls inside the console would be a slightly shorter run.

The key to this little discussion is you DON'T want to have cables that are too short, or "marginal".  Remember, the cable stretcher and the wire stretcher are ALWAYS checked out of the tool crib when you go to get them...
