I took her out today to test out the new motor height, this time with a full tank of fuel and two people aboard.  To speed with the heavier load was still 43, and cruise was about the same.  Steering torque was reduced, so I think the engine’s where she needs to be.  The boat feels like it still needs a little weight forward.  I need to hurry up and finish the coffin box.  Hopefully that will do the trick.

Now it’s time to to take her offshore for some fish.  Unfortunately, work calls, so that will be in two weeks weather permitting.

Both of you two Gentlemen have "Master Builder" status rebuilds going. Thanks to both of you for what is the lifeblood of this Forum.

MS, I had a 222 CCP but it had the shorter 200 coffin box up front. I too always felt the front end was light but controlled the nose height with tabs. When I repowered going from the factory installed 185 to a 200hp, the goal was 40 mph and it did that easily so yes, I think you are where you want to be.

Good luck and post a few pics with fish blood on them.  :thumright:

It's interesting that the 200CCP and the 222CCP run about the same speed with similar power.  The extra 2 feet don't seem to affect the speed on the 200 vs. 222.  I agree that the 200 does seem a bit bow-light, but the extra 2 feet on the 222 seem to make up for that a lot. Also, having a couple anchors and some chain in the forward anchor locker (an in my case) with a trolling motor mounted on the bow all seem to balance it out pretty well.  Did you keep the batteries in the stern or move them up under the console?  That helps a bit too - both with draining the back and with moving some weight forward.

Nice work on that boat!  It's great to see some of these classics get some love.

Thanks Capt. John  The published weight on the 222 and 200 are only 200-300 pounds different, so I would expect similar performance.  Though that extra 2 feet would help cutting through chop.

I have 1 anchor and 12' of chain forward.  My Batteries, 2 group 31 AGMs are in my console.  The CG of my fuel tank is 8" forward of stock too. The deck drains really well. I raised it 1" and the floatation in the bracket helps too.

I think when I get my coffin box mounted it will be heavy enough too level things out, may be with 100 pounds of ice added.

I have owned both the 200CCP and the 222CCP.  To be honest, I never saw much of a difference in the ride between the two.  I will agree that the bow might ride a little higher on the 200CCP but I could never really see a difference.  I had both of these boats offshore several times.  Personally, I like the bow to ride a little higher because it cuts down on the spray.

If you want the bow to come down a little, get a 50 pound bag of play sand and throw in the anchor locker :13:  You have trim tabs anyway so just trim them where you want the bow to be and ride.

Boat looks great!!

Even with the rebuild complete (I should say substantially complete), there are still projects that I want to do.  One of the features that I liked about the original CCP is the storage cubbies in the forward liner.  Even though I ditched the liner, I still wanted the storage, so I built trays out of glass with starboard strips as keepers.  The bungees should help keep things in place while running.

The CCP boated her first brag worthy fish today, and the first ever blue Marlin for her rebuilder, captain and angler.  The catch wasn’t a solo effort.  I had a first time angler on the boat, and he passed on the fish, but he did an admirable job of clearing lines and some boat handling with a lot of barking of orders from me.  The fish nearly spoiled me early in the fight, and we nearly lost it a second time.  Long story short, clean catch and release with the fish living to fight again.

Excellent! :salut: :salut: :salut:

While I won't doubt it has happened before, you are the first member that I recall hooking up a marlin.

What a great culmination to a worthy rebuild. Textbook.

Congrats. :thumright:

Even when the rebuild is finished, there are still projects.  I added DIY coaming bolsters out of SeaDek.  I considered, getting some of the knock off stuff at amazon, but decided to go with SeaDek.  The knock off was $80 per sheet, and the SeaDek double that.  The project took a bit more than two sheets, so material costs were not a huge deal.  Besides, the knock off's translated product description did not inspire confidence in the adhesive used. I went with the 10mm thickness beccause I was after grip to brace thighs against coaming more than padding.

I used clear mylar to template the coaming and then transferred pattern to 1/2" MDF.  I had scrap from another project, so no cost there.  I used a utility knife to cut the foam, and then double stick tape to stick the SeaDek to the template.  A router with a 45 degree chamfer bit gave a nice bevel to the edge.  The EVA does gum up the ball bearing guide, so occasional cleaning with xylene kept it rolling.

A good cleaning, and then it's just peel and stick.

I still haven't finished the Aquasport coffin box.  Haven't been up for anymore fairing and painting.  I got an Engle 165 to use for a fish box, and it works so well, I may be selling the coffin box.  Anyway, I cut SeaDek pads for the cooler, and inlayed one of the commercial SeaDek rulers into it.

Great work as usual. I completely understand the concept of never truly being done!
