Well here it goes, since everyone else puts up their FB builds and being a lurker, I figured I'd add mine here as well.  :cheers:

I picked up this gem
and wondered why the guy was selling the trailer and said the boat was "Almost Free". That should have been a subtle hint as my wife would say <!-- s:roll: -->:roll:<!-- s:roll: --> But being the male that I am, I missed lunch on that one. So I bought the boat and left him the trailer. The prior owner says it has a little hole in the bottom he cant find but it only lets in a little water. 

I check the boat over and notice it has a smell of gas and the floor has some soft spots. Being that my family owns these boats, I know what goes wrong with them. (Read coffin and poor deck screw sealing) So I take the boat and get it home. I figured it would be a total restore which I dont mind, and neither does the wife as it keeps me out of her hair.

Once home, I put it on blocks in the back yard and get out my trusty sawzall and go to town. I remove the console then the coffin cover. As I figured the tank had a grapefruit size hole in the side and more aluminum oxide that I wanted to see.   

So off to the trash pile it goes. I then remove the entire deck and have this beautiful canvas to start my planning.

Have fun!!  BTW, good on getting the boat and not the trailer.  A 200 needs a dual axle...

After the tear down of the deck, I looked into the transom. I also noticed the transom cap was cracked and it was a little bowed at the top. I took it off and to my amazed eyes  :roll: (not really), I saw rotted wood. So out it came. (That's my retired police K9 sitting and supervising me...)

But I get to again play with my man tools (no that that tool :roll:) and out comes the grinders and the sawzall. I removed all the gelcoat and mark 6 1/2" around the side and cut out the transom. Around the middle above the drain plug the saw stops cutting. :shock:  The blade is moving but it's not cutting. :roll:  I slide it out and the teeth are gummed up with the rotted wood. :evil:  I was able to finally cut it off. Just above the drain plug the wood was mulch. I pushed the blade into it without turning the saw on. It went right to the bottom. This actually made the removal much easier. Never thought I would be thanking rot but hey sometimes you take the bad and turn it into a good. So here is the pic after removal.

I gave up after that and took break. Today, I finished grinding and removed the remainder of the outside getcoat

and ground the inside as well

Thanks Seabob, I was adding to the thread due to pics in a post. It will be a long project but one that will stay in the family for sometime. I plan on taking the liner out and going to the hull sides. I spoke with a guy in Pinellas Park yesterday that has a top cap mold and can make these newer boats look like the older ones with the flat top cap.

I forgot to add the photo of the hole in the hull bottom. It ran right where the stringer attached. When I reattach the stringers, do I need to grind off all the old tabbing that is still attached, or can I go over it? I am new to this fiberglass stuff.

The plan is the repair it on the inside, the redo all stringers, made coffin box for new fuel tank, put in deck and then flip it. Once flipped, finish repair and redo the hull outside. It will be repainted in an awlgrip type paint. Lots of work ahead of me. I also have a nice plan for build in tackle stations on transom once built. Saw several I like at marine surplus in Bradenton that would do the job.

Seabob, I love your work, top notch and I plan on imitating it on mine when done. I hope you don't mind.

In this picture, I have a question?

You can see the square area where the core was attached to the transom, is that the bonding agent they used to attach it? And if so, can I leave it as it does not have wood and attach my new core over it or does it have to come out? I am using Coosa 26 bluewater 1 1/2" for my transom and yes it will be a full with flotation bracket.

That would most likely be Arjay bonding putty (polyester).

I would not worry about that so much provided, and highly recommended, you are putting some more glass in there between the hull skin and your new core. However, you DO need to finish cleaning up the glass outside of the putty line. You will not get a good bond on the darker areas still left over in the mat.

Thank you all for your help. I have cleaned that back along with the sides. I plan on doing it the same way as the 222 done on the boat builder site. I will be putting a dam on the back and refiberglassing the area. I will be putting in 2 layers of 1708 and 1 1700. Installing the coosa, then 3 more layers of 1700. This way to cut down on faring and sanding the back.

Once that is done, I wll grind the inside hull bottom, relaminating it. Once that is done, I will set the stringer height and make new stringers using the same style as installed just taller. Oh and new area for fuel tank.

Then relam the hull sides with fresh glass, remove the liner and cut it out. The deck will be 3/4" Nide Core with 1 layer of 1708 on the bottom and 1 layer of 1708 with 2 of 1700 on the top for a total of 3. I will use Divinycell cut in 1"x2" strips laminated against the hulll side. This will be the block for the deck to rest on. Once installed, I will use another strip of 1"x2" on top to seal the top and make it look nice. (At least that is the plan...)

If you see any issues with this or anything that you recomend to change, please feel free to chime in as I'm new to this and only want to build this once. I know I will have many more as the rebuild continues.

If you are talking about Joel's build, that is a solid plan. He is supported directly by a long time naval architect, and ya can't go wrong with that. That boat had a very good draft and sat really well in the water when done.
