Do you have the pic in a landscape view or portrait view?  It needs to be in landscape or else its too tall. The 640 is 640 wide <--->  and 480 tall.

Pretty amazing, really.
Not a whole lot of cap removal (at least since I've been here).

ya all the glass on the underside of the cap was dry as a bone, ground that down, filled the toe rails with foam and glue and glassed over it with some biax, now im recoring the front with some nida-foam. if i ever get some warm weather i can glass the other side of it. this weekend hopefully...

on getting the foam out of the stringers-
I just went through this, but the glass on my stringers is pretty good so I only cut the tops off so I could get the wet foam out.
Tried the paint stirring stick method, really messy & not as good as I'd hoped.
So I put a long blade on the sawzall, used a slow speed & carefully sliced along the stringers between the glass & foam from one end to the other, letting the blade bounce off the hull now & then.  Then went & cut perpendicular through the foam about every 8 inches.  Took a short wide pry bar and popped the foam out in nice little blocks, worked great, didn't leave any marks on the hull where the blade hit it, just gotta use some finesse.
The glass & foam for the outer stringers was trashed just where the side rod holders were mounted, from the lower screws letting water in over the years (1970 boat).  Even the glass was rotten.
And from the factory the glass was put on the inner wall of the transom after the stringers were finished, sooo the foam in the stringers was in direct contact with the transom wood.  Foam gets wet, water migrates to the back of the stringers, my transom was very wet & useless around the stringers where it needed to be attached the most.  They almost got it right, if they had just put a layer of glass on the transom before the stringers were attached I think my transom would have been fine.  The outer layer of wood was damp but still solid.

no idea, it really just takes up space inside the stringer. i can see where someone cut the tops out of a couple before and probably replaced some foam, but all the foam ive hit is pretty soft. and wet. i might have a line on some corecell to build the new ones out of though, well see.

Looking back at page 1 of the rebuild, did you cut the cap off?  I don't see the million screw holes along the edge?

The transom almost looks like it has a masonite outer in the pics  :cyclops:

^no, there was only about a dozen screw holding it on, not glued or anything. theres a hole about every 8 inches, plus the holes i made when screwing it on. all filled with glue now thank god. did have to fair the top lip of the hull to get it sitting right, someone at the factory was a little sloppy when they trimmed it i guess.

So what am I looking at on the outside of the transom?  Are the pics of you laying in a new outer fiberglass skin? or is this the transom that you laminated together?  Like I said, it looks like masonite. Maybe the marine plywood doesn't have much grain.
What's the next step? Lay glass across the entire back outside and down the sides of the hull where it's ground down?
