T-top canvas
« on: October 20, 2016, 08:21:22 PM »
Maybe someone can help me out here.  My t-top was made by hammerhead metal works in bath, no.  I have been trying to contact them for 2 months.  They do not answer their phone, do not return messages, they don't even answer fb messages.

I tell you this because I have been trying to get a replacement canvas.  So far, everyone wants me to send mine to them to have a new one made.  I am currently unable to do that as I have been spending a lot of time on the road.

Does anyone know who was making the canvass for hammerhead?  Maybe I can call them and have one sent to the house and ready when I get home for my fishing trip.

Even if you could get up with Hammerhead, I seriously doubt by now he would have a record of that top.  He made numerous sizes.  Your best bet is just remove the canvas, take it to your local canvas guy and let him duplicate it.

Speaking from experience you will have to take off your top to send it out a canvas shop.  They will use it as a pattern to make a new one.  I personally don't like using an old canvas as a pattern since they shrink/stretch with age so the fit is not perfect.  The best way is to make a pattern using a patterning material.  Or if the top is a simple shape and is flat, accurate measurements can be used.

So using JD's recommendation, I had someone go to the boat and cut the canvas down and carry it to a local upholstery shop.  I really had a problem sending it out of state since if anything happened to it, well, I'm kinda screwed.  At least local, it can be retrieved.  Hopefully it will be ready before next weekend.
