Can awlgrip be blended over repairs ?
« on: February 04, 2016, 08:52:52 AM »
Looking at a 222 that paintined nicely with awlgrip but needs transome work. I am not as familiar with awlgrip as I am with gel. But just want to make sure it can be blended nicely from the repair to the  existing awlgrip thanks guys

Just had my boat painted with awl grip.  That was one of my questions I asked the guy that painted my boat.  He told me that Awlgrip awl craft 2000 can be blended but the standard Awlgrip could not because the chemical bond from the previous cured coat and the new coat would be visible.  This is all I know.  Hope this helps I know there are a lot more people on here that have experience with the paint and hopefully they can help.

your best bet is wet sand out the whole transom and re spay the whole thing. the side gunnels do not tape line that will be wetted when spraying. Tape around the cornner and spray at a angle so as not to wet the side. You may have to wet sand on the side gunnel if you get any over spray gets on it. Use 2000 grit and hand buff with a very fine compound.

Hope this helps, John
