I have seen a few ads popping up for an all composite Atlas 23F. Beautiful boat. It looks like a refined version of an old flatback. The reason this boat appeals to me is that it is not a 196X or 197X year making it easier to finance and insure, or resell if the dire need ever came about.

I thought I would share. What are your thoughts?

Looks like a pretty good knock off.  Can't find a pic from the rear out of the water though.

Awesome - looks like a clean no-nonsense fishing boat.
What's the rule-of-thumb on making your own mold without legally getting hit?

The number of boat builders out there that splashed molds off of Aquasport hulls is staggering...   I know where this a set of molds for "19-6" hull with liner, cap etc with an enclosed transom.

The Aquasport name/brand is still owned but knocking off an old hull, probably going to be safe - they dumpstered most of the molds before they came up to Bradenton as far as I know. I know they dumpstered most of the documentation.

I called in to their shop last week and talked to the owner, Tom. He explained that it is an all-around bigger boat than the old 222 and that they aimed at making the boat perform better than similar flatbacks with their chine design and full length keel. Apparently both help in directional control and the chines are effective enough that there is no need for those add-on spray rails up front which keeps the outer look clean. I am going to try and stop by their shop this week and lay some eyes on the one that they are currently building. I asked him to email me pictures of running surface at the transom and attached the ones he sent me.
