Pamlico Sound NC Fishing Info
« on: May 29, 2018, 11:42:57 AM »
We're towing our 200 Osprey to Avon, on Cape Hatteras, for summer vaca in mid-July. We've rented a small canal-front house on the Sound-side with access to Pamlico Bay, and I'm seeking information on the summer boating and fishing there if any members have info to share. Thanks!

I guess we don't have any members who fish Pamlico Sound? Is there a way to get in touch via the site with members from NC for advice?

I would have thought that the NC boyz would be piping in on this.

Oh, and there is no way to PM a member group, like East Coast.

I live in eastern NC but to be honest I have never done any fishing up near Cape Hatteras where you will be.  If you were going to Morhehead City, Beaufort, or Atlantic Beach I could give you some different options.

Maybe the folks you are renting the house from could give you some information??

Thanks, guys, and that's a good idea about asking the rental owner, since it does have a dock and he might own a boat. I'll try that route.

I spent quite a few summers there. Friend keeps his Buddy Davis at Hatteras inlet just a few miles south of Avon. (until last week when she caught fire 15 miles out).  Anyways you plan on fishing the sound or trying to make a pass out of the inlet?
It’s storms that make the captain great. Not the calm seas

Just back from a forgettable family/fishing vaca to Cape Hatteras. We stayed in Avon and went out every day to fish for trout and drum on Pamlico Sound and never caught either one. All we got were a half dozen small bluefish caught on live finger mullet I cast-netted in the canal behind the cottage each morning. Very disappointing. I guess there was a cold spell that affected trout populations last winter, and prompted a rec fishing closure earlier this year, but still...

And Avon was located too far from Oregon or Hatteras inlets to make that run in a 20 footer to access the Atlantic. Next time I'll stay closer to one of those areas and try my luck at getting out when conditions may allow and angle the ocean side.
