Finally did it... 1985 222 refit...
« on: February 28, 2018, 07:05:13 AM »
Well after going back and forth for a few months I finally pulled the trigger on a 222.

A local marina started the rebuild on this boat and never finished it.  Basically they did all the fiberglass work, which is great because that’s the part I was really unsure of.  He said the prices new boat builders are selling for has hurt the market for these refurbished classics.  I bought the boat for less than they have quoted the fiberglass work alone on my friends boat, and it came with center console, livewell, porta bracket, rod holders, lights, thruhulls, fuel lines....  I hope I got a good deal, I think I did.

Stringers are reglassed with new foam, nidacore deck, panga style console.  The transom was already done with marine grade ply but is 100% solid.  I forgot to take some decent pictures yesterday but here’s what I have.

So obviously first order of business is a trailer and then bringing her home.

Plan is to rig her up with a Suzuki 175 or 200 if I can find a good deal.

Livewell leanpost, trim tabs, garmin and go.  Going to be a minimal features fishing boat.  Throw some bean bags in when the wife and daughter come along.

Over the years, many members have purchased wire from here:

https://www.genuinedealz.com/

You should shop the internet for the best price/shipping cost/tax because tinned copper will get pricey.

They also carry an assortment of switches/breakers/connectors you may require.

You can get some ideas on your project by browsing the Electrical Forum here. Members have done just about anything you may come across on your project.

Good luck. :thumright:

Thank you

Next question for anyone who’s reading.  How did you run your hydraulic lines through your transom?

Do a search on dirtwheelsfl and look at the work he's done on the boats that have porta brackets. I think you have to buy fittings that go through the transom and then hook your hoses to them.

They sell a bulkhead fitting for the hydro lines that looks nice if you wanted to go that route.

I try to eliminate as many fittings as possible on systems so i prefer to do something like this where you have a continuous piece of hydro hose...

They make one with a blank rubber insert so you can drill your own holes in it.

Couple more pictures.

still waiting on the new trailer

It came with this console.  It is the panga marine "Guide without seat".  It happens to be the same console florida196 has on his rebuild.  Im not very original so Im pretty much just going to copy his console layout.  This console is pretty small and it should be a pretty good challenge to make all the electronics and wiring fit but it leaves a ton of room for fishing.  So its a give take that I like.

Started with the Garmin 94sv.  Really has to be mounted on that side or the steering wheel is in the way.  Small console.

So I managed to get those 3 mounted and the steering wheel wrapped with paracord.  Im still waiting for all the wiring components to come in.  Ive got a pretty good pile going in the garage as things trickle in from different retailers.

Below is the macro electrical more or less.  Few things may change here or there.  Its going to be a a tight fit under the console.  I did buy some polypropylene window siding today.  Im trying to plan out the layout under the console before I epoxy it the inside.  Then I will mount all the components under there.  I guess the best solution is to mount everything to either side.

going to head down to Marine surplus in Bradenton tomorrow and look for  a front hatch.  The front of the console is 24x24 so I will probably be looking for 20x20ish.  I would like a door that completely comes free and doesnt hinge unless you guys have other ideas.

Google photobucket fix and download the plugin. Makes the site readable again.

If not private message me and I will send you pictures of mine and florida196’s console. I’m copying his.

x2 on the photobucket fix.  I don't know of one for IE but there is one for Mozilla/firefox and Chrome.
