Absolutely keep the VRO. They are very reliable.

BTW in 1995 it is no longer VRO it is an updated system called Oil Metering System (OMS). Here is a light read for you:

Agree.

The motion to remove the oil injection comes up here (and on every other forum dealing with boats and motors) every so often. If it's broke, fix it. If it works, keep it.

Good luck :thumright:

I don't know about the newer vro but my mechanic told me to  delete it on my 1992 225 VRO because it wasn't IF but WHEN the VRO let go that it would blow the powerhead before I could realize it was bad.

Urban myth.

It will however fail, like anything else on an outboard, if it isn't maintained/inspected on a fairly regular basis.

Time for a new mechanic. 1992 is second generation VRO, very reliable.  #1 as long as your alarms are working... you'll know if the VRO fails (unlikely) #2 if in the unlikely event there is a failure the usual failure mode is to inject MORE oil. #3 if your alarms are not working your more likely to blow the motor up by overheating it.

Make sure the carbs are clean and burn good gas... that thing will run forever.

Would one recommend adding the VRO back that was removed by the previous owner?
