Question about stringers and transom on my 99 215 DC
« on: June 20, 2017, 03:23:07 PM »
I searched here before posting. I found a spec sheet someone posted on a 1998 model. It stated that the stringers were foam filled and the transom was composite. So no wood! Can anyone verify that this holds true for my 99 model?

Yes and no. :ScrChin:

The stringers have been foam filled since day one (more or less) and the Genmar transoms of that era were composite but...

Who knows what was happening on the day your transom was laid up and we have 'heard' that in order to keep the line running, should there have been a shortage of composite material, plywood may have been substituted but....

I cannot recall seeing a wood transom on the late 90s hull so I'd bet yours is composite but...

Wood may be found in various support roles like consoles, decks and gunnels. Not always but to some extent.

So again, yes and no.

Good luck. :thumright:

I understand. Decking has some plywood and it's in excellent shape.. The transom is still very strong. I'm hoping it's composite!
