Weight of rebuilt 222 flatback
« on: June 13, 2017, 05:44:48 PM »
Hi I'm new to the forum and I've always loved the 222 flatback and will soon be in a position to buy one. I am open to buying one restorted or having one restored. The question I've had trouble finding an answer to is how much they weigh after being rebuilt. I would asume that they would be heavier but how much. I found one that was rebuilt by Gause several years ago but the owner said he believed it weighed 4000 pounds for boat motor and trailer. That sounds heavy to me. I would be greatful for any input.

Too many variables to answer this question.  Pro shop typically is less resin to glass=less weight.  Remove plywood + foam = less weight.  Careful construction can make it lighter.  Overbuilding everything makes it heavier.  Take it to a truck scale to get good information.

Thanks for the reply, I'm not looking for an exact number  4000 pounds just seemed excessive for a hull that started out at 2200 pounds. I'm hoping maybe someone had weighed their boat after a restore.

4000 is excessive, but not knowing anything about the specific build, I won't comment further.

Dirtwheelsfl rebuilt an Osprey 222.  Bare hull w/o hatches or console came in at 1750.  He's an experienced and talented builder useing Coosa and nidacore.  Check out his build thread:  https://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=13425.0

My rebuilt 19-6 with tower, Armstrong bracket, and motor weighed in at 4,000 lbs on the trailer. The trailer is right at 1,000 pounds, so the boat is approximately 3,000 lbs.

Thanks Blue Agave, how does the 196 compare to the 222 for shallow water?
