76' 22.2 Semi-V rebuild
« on: April 03, 2017, 09:58:02 PM »
I just purchase a 1976 Aquasport 222 semi-v that I plan to restore but would like to do some of the work myself to help save on the over cost.  I have absolutely no experience restoring boats or working with fiberglass, so would like to connect with an experienced Aquasport rebuilder who could work with me do the work in Tampa Fl.  Does anyone have any recommendations?

If I'm reading your post correctly, it sounds like you want to hire an independent boat builder to perform the restoration as you observe.  Is this correct?  Not trying to come off as a smart a**, so just bare with me here.  You don't have experience to restore, and thus I assume you also do not have the equipment & tools to do so.  I understand you're trying to save money, sure.

What are you planning for the restore?  From the shell up, from the stringers up, from the cap up??   I think realistically your best bet is to find a locally established boat restoration business (physical address) verses the independent builder, this assuming you're planning on major restoration as previously mentioned.  If you're planning on just some deck work, fiberglass patch work, etc., then you'd save money with the independent builder.  Many of these gents advertise their services on craigslist or other local trade papers.

Thank you for the reply.  Do you have anyone that you would recommend in Tampa to do the work?

The only business I know of is Hammerhead, I believe in the clearwater area.  They do excellent work, I've seen their rebuilds.  But I'm sure there are many more in the pinellas and hillsborough area.
