Fuel Sending Unit Screw Holes
« on: April 24, 2017, 05:17:57 PM »
I had someone install a new fuel sending unit on my 175 and they stripped the screw holes in the tank. Any suggestions on how to remedy this matter?

You can drill and tap to a larger size. If they are 8-32 you could step it up to a 10-32 and would work. Is it the aluminum tank or is it a poly tank?

Poly tank... The guy that put in the fuel sending unit used bigger size screws but noticed yesterday that it seems to be leaking fuel from the sending unit. Is there some kind of epoxy or gasket I can purchase to resolve the leak?

Being it's a poly fuel tank I'd suggest calling the tank manufacturer and asking them what to do.  If this were anything other than a fuel tank you can chance it with info you read on the internet.  But no messing around when it comes to the fuel tank.  The issue to consider with the poly tank is it expands and contracts.  So whatever gasket/sealant/epoxy/etc. you use must be able to expand and contract with the tank, otherwise the leak will occur again.
