1987 222 - want to rebuild/raise transom
« on: October 25, 2016, 05:25:04 PM »
I have a 1987 222 osprey in very good condition... except transom is starting to flex.  I would like to rebuild a new transom that is 25" tall (my motor has a 25" shaft and was mounted by previous owner to the 20" transom).  I am sure someone on the board has done this project.  Can you guys point me to that thread? I have looked and looked and cannot find one.

I don't want a full transom that I have to put a bracket on.  Just a new 25" transom.  I also don't want to disturb the rest of the boat that is in great shape.

Thanks for the help guys.

Interesting. :ScrChin:

Seems the 222 has a 25" transom.

The 200 has a 20" transom.

Light reading.

Good luck. :thumright:

You are right!   After I read your post, I went out and measured.  It is a 25" transom.  Now, I am trying to figure out why I have a 27" shaft on my motor...

Well I'm not the piston head in this Forum but...
I always thought shafts came in 5" increments. 15", 20" 25"

Not sure. :ScrChin:

I thought so too.  I bought the boat with the current motor.  It was mounted at least 2" above the top of the motor clamp leaving 2" of space between top of transom and clamp.  But, the cavitation plate is perfect... right st bottom of boat.

depending on your motor- you may be measuring correctly- but that doesn't necessarily mean you have a 27" mid-section. sometimes there is an inch or 2 above the cavitation plate- to where the midsection joins the lower unit. that may be where you are measuring your 25" midsection as a 27"....

Can you post a picture of the motor?  I think you probably have a 30" motor...
