Today I tabbed in the fuel/wire chase/stiffeners into the hull.  Next I'll core the cap, and I plan to fair and maybe prime the hull sides before I mate the hull and cap for the final time. I'm not looking forward to full 90 + degree days wearing Tyvek, but soon it will be unavoidable

Just a little project today.  I prepped and painted the anchor locker and aft bulkhead/ transom with Tile Clad.  It will help to protect the glass; plus it's so much easier to see and works on things.

I want to eliminate as many toe stubbers as possible (size 14 feet).  So, I decided to remove the exterior flange on my leaning post and go with an interior hidden flange like I put on my console.  The thing is, I didn't want to loose even the inch of height that I would give up by trimming the flange off.  I used some left over 2 part foam to create a sacrificial mold.  I built a dam of poly covered cardboard to control the foam.  Then I trimmed it back to fill in the hollow of the flange.

Then I prepped the inside of the leaning post and tabbed down to poly covered melamine board to mould the flange.  When cured, I trimmed back the flange.

.

Then I cut off the old clunky flange and ground back the exterior to feather from o to full thickness removing all the foam in the process.  Finally, I laid in multiple layers of 1708 to build the base back up.  I'll still need to fair, prime and paint.

Things are finally returning to normal after Irma.  My thoughts are with those who are still pulling their lives back together.  For me and mine, Irma did no serious damage to home, hearth or boat.  She did leave a boatload of leaves and branches in the CCP.   Nothing lost but a little time to clean up.

Power is still out at my father's house where I keep the boat, so I had to busy myself with a smaller project.  I molded a manifold for the Baitwell inflow.  Water will enter the well through angled holes in the tank side creating a circular flow.  Still need to fit the overflow, but when I'm done there will be nothing inside the well for bait to bump into.

Yeah I had 2 boats that looked like that - we dodged another bullet for sure.
The whole block across the street from me are without power still.  A guy down the street had about 12 trees in the corner of his yard and they went down and took out the line which knocked out 20 homes. Bet he's not going to be on their Christmas card list this year ;)
Glad you fared ok through the storm - she was strong, the bands were strong. We had 100+mph winds here in Sarasota - gusts anyway and they are the ones that do the damage.

I built a set of cradles and a ladder style strong back to keep the cap in shape.  I set up a baton to refine the lines of the coaming.  Then I routed everything back to smooth, fair and symmetrical curves.  In the next couple of days, I'll bond in the coring for the cap, carbon core for cleats, rod holders and other areas that I'll through bolt and airex where compression strength isn't a big deal.  Then, I'll encapsulate the core.  When the cap and hull get mated, I'll be at the end of the major glass work.

I got the cap cored and the core encapsulated.  The core is carbon core in places where cleats, rod holders and the grab rail will mount.  I used the lighter weight airex in less critical places. I encapsulated with two layers of 12 oz biax with a layer of 1708 on the bottom to distribute stress.  Squadrons of love bugs did play kamikaze as encapsulated things.  There was nothing I could do to keep  them out.  Oh well the boat was never going to be vegan anyway.

While I was at it I tabbed in a couple of lightweight PVC chases for nav lights and speaker wires.

As built there were polyurethane planks glassed to the high sides of the cap.  they were barely dusted with chopper gun glass and had deteriorated badly.  I debated just glassing over them, but decided to pull them out and replace with the same Prisma planks that I used to stiffen the hull sides.

Yeah, it's definitely a bit of overkill, but I hate when boats rattle & shudder when they drop off a wave.  I want the hull/deck connection to be solid.

Coming along nicely!  :thumright:

Waiting to see that bracket mounted.  Do you have a date in mind for the maiden voyage?

Thanks Blue.  Major glasswork is almost finished.  Then it's on to sanding, fairing, primeing and paint.  I'm hopeing for a launch in January or February, but the target has been pushed back three times.  When I started the project, I hoped for a May, 2017 launch.  That got pushed back to August, then October.  It always takes longer and costs more than you think.  One thing's for sure;  I'll have her ready for dolphin in the spring.

Preaching to the choir my friend, been there done that. I can tell you it's all worth it in the end. As they say, "Chop your own wood, it will warm you twice!".  Keep at it, the end is near.  :thumright:

On Sunday, I lined up some help and we flipped the cap and fit it to the hull.  It's more of a dry fit at this point, because there was a delay in getting the methcrylate adhesive that I'm using for the hull deck joint.    While I had a crew, we also moved the boat to an enclosure with walls.  I'm also in the process of laying down PT plywood as a deck under the boat.  I want to be able to keep the boat clean as I get closer of finish work.

The Methacrylate came in yesterday, so I did a trial run using it to bond in the lip that will support the anchor hanger & hatch.

With the cool weather today, I decided to break out the Tyvek suit and tackled a rough sand for the cap.  It's close to profile now.  I need to knock down high spots and make the shinny spots go away.  Then it will be on to fairing mix.
