Of course, there's no way I'd be crazy enough to tackle another rebuild.

Famous last words  :thumright:

True nuff, dirtwheels, but here's what I'd say to anyone contemplating doing a rebuild:  Only do it if all of the following statements are true.

1 I'm rebuilding because I want something that can't be found in current production boats.

2 I want the boat to be purpose built with everything where I want it.

3 I will enjoy most of the work of rebuilding and consider it quality recreation.  (No one wakes up and says I really want to grind some glass today, but you get my point).

4 you plan on keeping the boat for a long time, and resale value is unimportant.

As for cost, it is possible to do a rebuild and save money.  You can use less expensive materials like marine ply and poly resin (both great choices). You can reuse the outboard or repower with a used motor.  Use surplus hardware or even reuse some of the original hardware.  Be happy with a workboat finish.  These things would get you through a rebuild and save some cash.

If you are like me, however, useing epoxy, vinylester and composites; planning on new power and only happy with top-quality components, it will be hard to escape without spending close to the cost of a new or late model boat.

Oh well!  For me 1-4 are completely true.

Gave the console a preliminary sand.  There are still some high spots to knock down before I start fairing in earnest.  I also decided to do a sample layout for the instrument panel.  I can fit 2) 7" Displays, a VHF, Radio, Suzuki C10 Display and a 10 Switch Panel from New Wire Marine - Not bad.

As I am new to the forum, so I am just getting to many of the rebuild threads. I wanted to say I love the way you did your scuppers. I was thinking of doing something very similar but had no idea how I was going to make it happen. The double PVC pipe and spacer mold was genius. Posts like these make me very happy I found this forum, and had time to discover these treasures during my teardown,  before I start to construct. Thank you for documenting your build so well. I look forward to seeing the rest.

Funsmith, thanks for the kind words.  Many of my ideas, including the scupper mold, came from pouring over other build threads.  I'll be following your build too.  I'm especially interested in your plan to add flair to your 222.

The console is glassed inside and inside is painted with Tile Clad.  I did leave a band at the bottom uncoated to allow the console to be glassed inside and out to the cockpit sole.  Kind of last minute, I decided to mold a recessed foot rest for the rear face of the console.

I got a big lift out hatch for the front of the console.  With the coffin box in place, it will fold down to allow access to the inside of the console.  When the coffin is removed, it will lift out completely to make rigging easier.

The forward stiffeners are patterned and dry fit.  I hope to flip the cap this weekend.  After its recored and glassed, it will be time to button everything up.

The cap is off, but with the heat, its been hard to get motivated for the grinding necessary to prep for re-coring.  I'm still playing with the console instead.  I decided to build an internal flange that will be bonded to the deck prior to glassing the exterior down.  This seems easier than glassing inside the console on my knees.  A bonus is that I'll be able to finish and pre-rig the inside of the console before it's secured in place.

I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, but I ordered a facsimile of my capacity plate.  The original was completely unreadable, but thanks to the information on Classic Aquasport, I was able to resurrect the necessary information to fill in the blanks.

Did a bit of work today dry fitting the Prisma planks that I'm using as longitudinal stiffeners on the hull sides.  This is the top row.  There will be a second row halfway down to the sole.  when these are glassed in along with the transverse stiffeners the hull should be rock solid even without a liner.  I hope that with the weight I'm adding will offset the reduced weight of composite materials and the liner that I tossed to keep the weight between 1800 and 2000 pounds.

Id probably be more inclined to do just one row of those stiffeners, right in the middle.
Should be plenty stiff, the hullsides arent that tall. And less work, materials, fairing, easier to keep clean etc!
