Carl and I are at a critical decision making point right now. We have a 1975 240 CC Aquasport. Have had her 20 years. Rebuilt her engine once, increasing horsepower, removed the cap refoamed her, rebuilt her stringers, added freshwater tank. We love this boat and in the past have thought of buying a center console with an outboard. The problem is the Tamaratoo is set up perfectly for fishing for grouper with down riggers . Plenty of room in the back plenty of room for added cooler on bow without affecting access to storage. Nothing else compares to the old girl.

So if anyone could give me an idea where I might find a rebuilt complete engine I would appreciate it. We thought about buying a long block but we would be using some components off our engine that have already seen the salt water for some years. Also have seen one Aquasport of interest but it has a 250 HDPI on it. I've read some nightmares about that engine.
Also accepting any encouragement that the Tamaratoo can and is worth saving.

Our boat has a 292 in line 6 which is slightly different from the 250 in line 6. The 292 block is a bit taller and was used in trucks.

I know the 292 well, just wasnt very many of them compared to the 250. What makes your current 292 at the end of its life? You can be specific.

Interesting search exercise.  :det1:

Apparently they haven't made camshafts for that motor since 2010.

Are you looking for the same motor(another 292)?

Tammy,
Since it's been almost 30 years since that engine was manufactured, its really time to step up to the 4.3 GM Vortec V6. This would be a fantastic upgrade for similar weight and I'm guessing a 50 hp gain over the 292 with better mpg. I would seriously consider this engine as a replacement.

Thanks for the replies. What makes our 292 near the end of its life is 20 years of saltwater exposure. Thanks for the alternative motor advice. I will investigate it further.  :c017:
