1968 19-1 rebuild questions
« on: April 27, 2017, 05:19:16 PM »
Hello everyone!

My name is John - this is my first post. I already have gotten a lot of information, just from cruising the forums. This site is amazing!

I picked up this hull for pennies on the dollar. Couldn't pass it up.

First thing I did was tear out those horrible "upgrades" that the P.O. installed. Also sanded off the "non-marine" type paint that was on there. There is no gel coat on the hull of the boat, this is because it was built before gelcoat was developed, right? Should I go with gelcoat or expoxy paint for the exterior hull?

Picked up a console off an older 20' Mako. Beautiful teak. Primed and ready for paint. Just set it in the boat temporarily to get an idea of how it will look. Obviously it will be mounted much further back.

I have a few questions though. Since this was a heavily modified boat, is it the osprey or the gull? There is no longer a hull ID and it is titled as a homemade vessel.

Secondly, about what location is the center of gravity in this boat? As far as mounting the CC...

Thank you in advance!

The Gull and Osprey obviously used the same hull and the difference was the casting deck and where the console was placed. The Gull had a large casting deck up front and the console was placed up against it. The Osprey was set back a couple feet from the casting deck but I am unsure if the Osprey casting deck was smaller.
If you look in the 191 rebuilds forum you'll see some before pics and can get a feel for console placement.
