200 Osprey Rigging / Chase Tubes???
« on: April 27, 2011, 03:50:51 PM »
Please excuse the redundancy if this is a repeat question - I did try to search....

Is anyone really familiar with the 200 Osprey rigging/chase tube configuration?

I have a year 2000, 200 Osprey that I am about to run speaker wires within.  I have never worked on a boat before, always hired someone, but this is something I really want to do myself.

Any suggestions, tips, or directions as to how I can run these myself without spending an insane amount of money?

Since I plan on putting speakers on the aft port & starboard sides, do I need to send wires up the starboard side and wrap around to the port?

Thanks!!

No problem, the only bad question is the one not asked.

Take a look under the console, where the rigging comes in. There may be a pull line/cord there. If not, you'll need to use a wire "snake" to pull the speaker wire. Between that area and the rear inspection port, it will be a little work, but nothing you can't do yourself.

Also drag an extra cord for future use as a pull.

Thanks Gran398!

I did take a look and there are two places to feed the wire snake.  Unfortunately, there is no pull cord.  I am just afraid that both run to the transom.  Would I need to run there and then feed back up?

Is my ignorance showing yet?  LOL

Naw, you're not ignorant, you just need a little experience! We all have a starting point.

Push the snake from the rear inspection hatch up into the console. Hook the speaker wires and the extra cord to the snake. Duct tape all and make sure to taper the duct tape at the front for the pull back to the rear. Slather the whole mess up with heavy grease and pull it back through.

Cut the holes for the speakers. Fish the snake down through the holes to the inspection hatch, pull the wires back to the speakers.

Load up some Barry White on the MP3, get two bottles of Dom Perignon, and a full moon.

Bingo! You're experienced :thumleft:

Curious,
Are you placing the speakers close to the transom, in the space below where the motor control cables (starboard side) exit (and of course on the port side where there are no cables) or are you talking about forward of the rod holders (sorta amidships) more toward the center console?

In either case yes, you will need to wrap around to the port side.

I am placing the speakers towards the front - in the space between the console seat and the step up/storage area.  This should give enough room for my rod tips.  Majority of my rods are 7'6" and longer so I can't have them too close the cc.  Fishing is still primary

Bob, thanks for the heads up on having to wrap the wire around - was hoping to avoid that, but certainly understand.

Gran398 keeps referring to the rear inspection port - I am having a hard time swallowing the fact I have to run my wires there first and then up.  Damn.

I might as well run brand new navigation light wires as well just for the hell of it - if it is going to be this difficult!  Shoot, better yet use those as the pull if they are strong enough.

That changes the complexion of this project.
You still need to wrap (don't think you can cross over) but.... SB4 would know better.

I'd bet you can get from the console to the nav light without going back to the transom. Forget about the tube, unless the nav light wiring runs in one. You may need another set of hands to help getting from the light over to the port speaker.
Then again, you may be able to traverse under the raised front deck. SB will know.

When you said "Aft" figured you meant towards the rear....i.e. use the rear deck hatch...but if the speakers are now going amidships...we need to change the plan.

Or get a boom box.

Don't change the full moon plan though. Its foolproof.

i thought about mounting them there, but didnt like the idea of water draining on them when washing spraying the deck after netting some baits

Dag-nabbit, as Bobby Bowden would say.

Things get lost in translation on the internet...not our fault.

Meant to advise to run the speaker WIRES forward to near and UNDER the raised foredeck, then UP to each side, to where the speakers will mount amidships in each side, beneath the gunnels. Giving more room/ease to run the wires. Pretty much CB's last posted thought.

Sorry 'bout that...sure don't want speakers on/near the deck.

Oh well...if I were astute, I could do a drawing...but alas, am not astute....lotta words tho...

Hope this makes sense.

Aaron,

Where you've mounted yours seems to be exactly where he'd like to mount his. Please offer direction to accomplish this. Thanks.

First and foremost - THANK YOU for all your input.  It is much appreciated!!

@ Aswaff400:  Initially I wanted to install the speakers where you installed yours but I am afraid I will beat the hell out of both the back of the speakers and the tips/guides of my rods.  Have you had any issues with that?  However, I had not considered the wash down aspect.....damn I am now confused.....

My office is at the corner of Gandy & Westshore.  I just moved from Tampa Heights to St. Pete/Shore Acres to be specific.   I just might reach out to you for a hand in a couple of weeks....or whenever my order is shipped.

By the way - the direction your boat is heading is right for one of my favorite winter fishing spots.

@ gran398: I actually followed you on the last post!  Tomorrow, after a few passes over some local flats for Reds(fishing comes first), it's boat inspection time.  Going to use some Fiberglass wiring snakes to poke around and locate directions I can go.  I also want to apologize for the confusion earlier with "aft".  The day I started this thread, I had just had a long conversation about where the power-pole pump would be installed.  My bad.
