Call Out To Those 170 Models W/Thru Hull Livewell Pickup
« on: May 22, 2018, 02:56:06 AM »
For those of you whom have a 170/175 fitted with a thru-hull pickup for the livewell feed....I'd like to learn the location of your thru hull.  I'd really love to hear from someone who has installed this thru hull by working through an aft deck hatch, or likewise.  Meaning, I'll soon be installing a thru hull pickup to feed my above deck livewell, and my access for installation will be the limited area provided by working through the deck hatch (approx. 15" x 8").

I'm curious if most have their thru hull towards center line or towards chine...or perhaps right in the middle, between stringer and chine.  The thru hull I install will need to be port side, I have no other below the water line thru hulls, and no transducers on port side.  So there shouldn't be an issue with the pickup receiving clear flow of water.  And if you've got pictures, please share.  Thanks.

Jason,

I think we may have talked about this before... I didn't do the installation, but have a thru hull pickup for the livewell. I know the pick-up is more towards the centerline of the hull just under the livewell (the livewell is the lean post on the boat). Would any pictures be helpful for you to reference?

Sure, or even just a pic of the underside of hull that shows the location of pickup in relation to engine.  Whichever is easiest.  I'm guessing if the location of your thru hull is under livewell leaning post, the installation of such was completed prior to laying the deck, or the location of the deck hatch is just aft of leaning post, verses just forward of transom.  Is either assumption correct?

Jason,

The hatch is just forward the transom. I understand that the plumbing was installed before the deck was laid. I'll attach a few pictures from inside the hatch and the underside of the hull for reference. I live in the South Pasadena area if you ever wanted to come take a look.

Thank you very much for taking the time to snap and share your pics.  It's doubtful I'll be able to have the thru hull as far forward as yours with me having to work in such a limited space provided by the aft deck hatch.  But I don't suspect any issues with clean flow of water just a little further aft than yours.  You've got a nice clean setup, looks good.  Thanks again.
