225 Explorer dual bank charger install location
« on: March 11, 2013, 10:17:32 AM »
with all the limited space where exactly have you installed a charger....I'd really like to see a few pics(if possible) to give me a more precise location that others here have experienced.  I know what the manufacturer directions say, just checking realistic locations for our 225Explorers.

Good question since I'm considering adding one to my Explorer.

Pretty sure Pete has his installed on his Osprey (same back end as the Explorer) on the transom wall behind the tackle center, starboard aft corner...

Pete, Did you replace the fuses in the black breaker box with circuit breakers?  Or did it come that way?  Also since my labels are gone or warn off does anyone know what fuse is for what?  I know the big CB is the main power for the helm feed...  and the three fuses are for the bilge pump floats and stereo memory... but which is which?

Mine came that way,the labels say,on the left"stereo","main" under the red button and "stereo" on the one below that.I guess that it means there are 2 stereo memory wires? And I have looked in the harness under the console for one,no joy. :salut:

Does the Osprey have a forward bilge pump?  I would assume it does since the hull is the same.  Bob will chime in son.  I doubt you have two stereo memory circuits.

Nope,no forward bilge pump, freshwater washdown pump and tank in the hatch in front of the console.I don't think it has 2 stereo memory circuits either, but those 2 breakers are labeled stereo

Let's see...40A main (the red one), stereo memory and bilge float (both wired constant hot), and trim tabs (switched hot).

Which one is which?  My memory ain't that good!!!  Easiest way to tell.  Pull down the box, float should have a brown w/red stripe wire, memory will have a yellow wire (might be purple, don't ask me why), and tabs should be orange...

OK now you have me confused Bob.  So does the bilge fuse protect both of my bilge floats?

Bruce, now, keep in mind, my deal was Ospreys (no cabin bilge pump)...so, I would imagine that you have a fwd bilge float fuse and an aft bilge float fuse.  Unless they "cheaped" out and protected both from the same fuse.  Easy way to tell.  Make sure both floats are working via the test switches on the floats.  Remove the float fuse holder.  Try the fwd float same way.  If it doesn't turn the pump on, their's your answer.  If it does, then time to go searching...

I just installed one on my 225 explorer. There is plenty of room on the transom wall above the batteries, the problem is having access to that area to drive screws into the transom  wall as it is partially behind the livewell. What I did is take the main fuse panel, the battery switch, and the ground bus bar off and then  mounted them to a section of starboard along with the charger. I then hung the starboard with all the components on the inside of the transom wall, sliding the charger partially behind the live well. I then drove screws into the starboard and into the inside of the transom wall to where I had enough clearance for my power screwdriver had access too. I can take photo when I get out to the Marina later this week.

Another option that I didn’t see until after I installed mine, is to the right of the batteries on the ledge behind the oil tank. There is a ton of room there.

Sounds like yours was labled on Monday morning. Pull it off and look at the back of it. If you have a brown wire with red stripe going to the one that says stereo, then I believe this is the bilge float switch. you should have two brown wires with red stripes going to two separete fuses. One for each bilge float.

Ok,
So I was curious to figure this out so this am I took off the breaker panel to see what was behind it....
looks pretty good fro 10 yr old wiring,so yellow wire, stereo memory, orange wire, trim tabs,on the lower right you can just see part of the brown wire, float switch. So after I did this I tested them with batt switch on and off, switch on,power to tabs and float, switch off,no power to either.I found the yellow wire under the console same deal no power unless batt switch on.

Sprayed some corrosion block on there and put it back on. :salut:
