Mercury 150 Four Stroke Back Ordered for 28 Weeks
« on: June 13, 2018, 03:35:33 PM »
So, I’ve been hearing about Supply problems on some Outboards.  Thinking that I’m about two to three months out from needing power for my 200 CCP rebuild, I thought it would be a good idea to order my motor. Was planning on Mercury 150 to keep weight at a minimum for Classic Aquasport 20 CCP. Deal all worked out. Call back from Merc, 150 back ordered for 28 weeks.

Now, I’m back to considering Suzuki 200. It’s fabout 60 lbs heavier, but it’s a 200. Transomnot an issue. It’s been rebuilt to full height and 2” thick useing Coosa (well same thing, Carbon Core 28). Transoms knees have been added, so the transom is stout. I’ve added an Armstrong flotation bracket, moved bateries to the console, moved baitwell to the leaningpost and raised the cockpit sole. I’m 90% that the boat will handle it.

So, would you wait half of year for the Merc, or go with the Zuke?

Wow, that's a long time. Maybe do a search for 2017 leftovers?

I ran into the same thing with the L4 200 Yamaha. Get on a waiting list. The 200 was my original plan but I'm glad I did my research and went with the 150. A little reduction in top end performance but better fuel burn.

Look on Ebay.  There is a dealer in GA that has good deals on Mercury motors and sometimes has motors that have like ten hours on them with full warranties.  Mercury has a name for them... I forget... but they have been back to the factory and inspected etc but they can save your a few grand.

Bruce is referring to Central Georgia Marina.  I purchased a Mercury 150 Pacemaker from them in May 2016, can't say enough about the motor.  :thumleft:

But if I was you I'd be placing an order on one of the new 3.4 liter V6 Mercury 175hp - 200hp -225hp motors.  I believe you would be happier with the 200 or 225 on your boat.

Yeah, the new four stroke 200 looks impressive.  I think it’s even harder to get than the 150 at the moment.  I’m not too fond of the looks though.  I’m not sure that Darth Vader should be hanging on the back of a classic.

Seriously, I like the ease of maintenance and simplicity of the 150.  It compares really well to the Suzuki 200 that I was leaning toward before I started second guessing the weight issue.  Here’s a comparison that I did from performance reports.

Plus it looks like Woodeneye is happy with 150 on his 222 CCP.  The merc has more displacement than Yamaha and Suzuki 200’s.  I think it will do fine at 3-4K Cruise.  I’m not really to concerned if top end is low 40s or high 40s.

I like the new looks.  Anyhow, the 150 4S is a great motor and I am certain you'll be happy with it and it weighs approximately 470 lbs for the 25" midsection.   You must be chomping at the bit, you're so close.  Looking forward to you mounting the bracket and splashing that old girl.  Good luck with your purchase.   :salut2:
