200 XF Live well?
« on: July 09, 2016, 07:29:29 PM »
Howdy - I noticed that on the right side of my boat there seems to be a discharge port while below the water line is what seems to be a through the hull fitting (see image). I would assume that is for a live/bait well  - but I didn't find a pump anywhere. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Should be the drain for the locker behind the helm. Mine was set up as a livewell. Too small and wasn't recirculating... Good for shrimp and that's about it.

Hmm. I am going to fill some water in it. Let's see where it goes. Your's had a pump in it ?

It just had an aerator style pump in it.  You know a little bilge style pump with a spray head on it..  had to fill it with a bucket.

Hmm - thanks for the info. I was just wondering why my boat has the "through the hull" port below the water line. Any idea?

My 91 has the same setup. I use it for tackle storage. The thru hull drain is now hooked up to my on-deck live well overflow. The drain works (in both cases) by displacement. Located close to or below the waterline doesn't affect the operation.

Oh thanks. I had it the other way around. I though it is to suck water into the live well. How would I get access to the hose? Is there a seacock?

Possibly through a deck plate.
No seacock. It's just for drainage. That style thru hull is not designed for a raw water inlet. More than likely it's barbed on the end to accept the hose.

OK,
As for access, I'm guessin' your layout is similar to Wing's old 200XF so....

Scroll down to the 11th pic and you can see the access plate (cover removed, in front of the rod holders, behind the stored seat pedestals). I'd say that was how you get at the drain hose/thru hull fitting. Now's a good time to check its condition.

Good luck.

Hmm .. checked it. All foamed up with some form of hard foam. No luck.

That would be foam flotation.
Access is indeed limited unless you dig it out. Hold that thought. :ScrChin:

Have you poured water into the compartment and confirmed it comes out the thru hull?

Yep. Checked it. The water runs out of the bottom thru the hull fitting when I pour water into the compartment.
