I have a 79’ 19-6 FF with what seems to be an original 2 litre merc on the back. Runs great! But can anyone explain what the two push buttons on the throttle controls are used for? And how difficult would it be to update and make modern?

The hoses were foamed in place which made them a pain to replace, especially if the deck is still in place. Make sure you run a vent tube also. Perko (and others) makes a fill cap with integrated vent. Check that out.
You can buy roll or squares of rubber to make your own  gaskets - https://www.amazon.com/Neoprene-Plumbing-Material-Leveling-Protection/dp/B0BTHH4V2B?asc_source=01HFY6QA52QM8M7ATBSHXHG6T4&tag=snx70-20

The fuel fill hose in the coffin

This cap has 3 hole mounting.  The boat had a 4 hole mounted one before.

I currently don’t even have a tank to put in the compartment, just the portable red plastic ones.
Everything I have photos of are in my gallery now.

Thanks guys!! I posted 19?? because I am not sure of the year. My research tells me like '68. To confirm the windows were never there , no evidence of being glassed over. Too bad, whoever bought originally didn't spring for the $40 option. hopefully i get a little better at pics and posts. glad to be aboard

There was no fuel tank when I got the boat.  The filler hose is all rotted away and the hole for the mounted cap is too large for the one that was rattling around in it.

Engines & engine woes / 2003 215 Explorer With Johnson 175 no s/n plate
« Last post by Hshirokmann on April 22, 2024, 03:53:14 PM »
I have a 2003 Explorer 215 with a 175 Johnson, all original, and it looks like the label for the engine info has fallen off. My question is was there a specific model number used for this engine or were there a few different engine models. If anyone would have any info on the correct engine model I would appreciate it. Just trying to get some newer parts.

Thanks

Unless you have issues with the way it runs, i would leave the motor where it is. Typically as Rickk mentioned, the cavitation plate is at the same level as the bottom of the hull at the transom. Regarding the fuel tank coffin, not sure why one would scrap it out of the boat. It serves the purpose well to keep the fuel tank off the bottom of the bilge area a few inches and out of the elements. The hatch setup is nice to get to the tank in the future if and when it fails.

What do people do with the fuel tank coffin if not using it for a fuel tank?  With the console and a bench seat over it, that makes it somewhat inaccessible. Looking for ideas.

Fuel tanks and anything about fuel systems / 2003 215 Explorer fuel tank depth
« Last post by Hshirokmann on April 21, 2024, 02:21:36 PM »
I need to replace my fuel sender and just wondering if anyone knows the tank depth for the 100 gal tank. I have not removed the original sender yet to measure. Thanks!
