Thank you! I feel like a lot of people avoid wood on boats for obviously reasons but I think brightwork adds a lot of character.

Well i got some boat goodies from a brown truck today!!!!

I got the fuel inlet hose installed. And it went without a hitch. Took all of about 2 1/2 minutes. I am glad that was easy. I haven't cut it down to size, will wait for my new tank to arrive.

I also installed my new bilge drain thru-hull. Now that took me longer than the fuel hose!!!!

I also started to prepare my sole for the epoxy injection. I had to drill about 120 holes. Some holes had some wet wood and other holes didn't have anything in them. So this will hopefully stiffen up my sole until i am ready to do a complete replacement. I am going to put some non skid paint on the sole after i am done with everything else. The soft spot was about an area about 3x4. And she needs it bad. This picture is looking down into the bilge thru the deck plate. Look how bad it is!!!

I am thinking of clamping it together so it can be the original thickness when i start my injection. Any other suggestion?

This is what i used as my template to mark my holes it worked perfect. The best part was that it was only $5.  It is a pegboard that i purchased from HD. I can use it around the garage somewhere when i am done with it!!

When i am ready to inject i will be using epoxy and a filler. Not sure what filler i will use yet. I was talking to a guy at a bar last night and was telling him what i was about to do with the injection. He was telling me that i could buy some Dap Alex caulking and pop off the back cap and clean it out and use that instead of having to buy some caulk tubes. So i bought some caulk and cleaned out the tubes. It was easy and it is water based caulk and cleared right out. It was on $1.58 a tube and better than paying almost $3 a tube plus shipping. Will it work for injection epoxy?

Great start. :thumright:

If you haven't read this yet, here are a few ideas on fillers, tools and procedure.

Looks just like mine done before the injection. I'm having flashbacks! Great call on the template . I jut eyeballed mine. I'm sure those tubes will work. I got super cheap refillable tubes for TAP Plastics.  Piece of advice, use your air compressor to blow the plungers back out between refills.

Well since the weather here in Virginia hasn't been the greatest lately (raining. I thought i would work on other things like cleaning the cushions and seeing if i can get the gelcoat to buff out to a shine. Since it doesn't look like this boat has ever seen any wax!!!
Helm seat back rest

Before

After

I hit the hull gelcoat to see she what would happen. Well it looks like it will shine up fairly good. I hit it with some rubbing compound and then some wax in a small area on the bow. She doesn't look to bad!!!! Will do the rest of the boat and see what it looks like.

I tried to hit the blue/gray area underneath the white gelcoat. But it didn't really have any affect. I was thinking of wet sanding it with a 600/800/1000/1500/2000 grit combination and then buffing it out.  What do you guys think? I am pretty sure it is gelcoat and not vinyl!!! or at least i hope it is....

Also a question would it be ok to use an Infrared Heater in my garage while working on the boat? Just to heat it up a little. Need a little warmth so i can finish patching all the holes in my console....

Well i decided not to do the wet sanding and try to keep using the compound. i went and picked up some 3m rubbing compound. And it actually is bringing back the shine. This save my shoulder....

And now she is beginning to look good again. I will hit it with another round of compound, then i will polish it then wax it!!!!!

before

after

This is how the starboard side looked when i got it!!!

Does anybody on here make the Vinyl numbers for the side? I would like to replace them as well.

I don't know if Wingtime is still cutting vinyl but most sign shops can make something that will be close. Internet too.

I used these guys.

Tomorrow i will put on a coat of wax and then get started on the port side.  My first launch and there will be a slick behind me....lol

So i have a question for anyone who may have done the injection on their sole to stiffen it up. Or anyone else for that matter. I had an idea today while i was out in my garage working on the boat. Exactly how thick is the plywood or balsa wood core? I cleaned out the hole where the deck plate was at and put some calipers on it and it measured out at 0.76. Which is about 3/4". Also i thought about cutting a piece of plywood and putting it around the hole to make like a damn for when i do the resin injection. Cute a piece of plywood in a circle, then cut out the middle the same diameter as my deck plate and then cut it in half. I would then coat it with epoxy resin and stick it in around the cutout in the floor and clamp it in place. It will serve as a damn for when i do my injection and it will give something for the screws to bite into when i put the deck plate back in. Sound like a good idea or not?

This is the wood i pulled out from around the cutout for the deck plate!!!

This is the cutout on the sole for the deck plate. This is where i would stick my pie plate out of plywood. Putting once piece in the top (bow) section and the other in the back (stern) section. This way epoxy would run down the curve.

So basically i would cut this pie out, cut a hole in the middle and then cut it in half.

I have been letting it dry out for about a week now and decided to put a heat lamp on it to give it some help.

I think the wood is a good idea.
Remember when you take pics with your phone to hold the phone horizontal with the lens to the left.  Then when you upload the pics they will be oriented correctly.  I rotated your pics for you.  You may need to refresh your browser to see the change.

What you are describing is EXACTLY what I did. The core around my stern deck plate was completely gone. I cut a ply circle and cut that in half. I put a screw on the inside end grain of each piece so I could maneuver the pieces. Coated them in epoxy and slid them in place.
