Problem with Mercury Optimax 225XL alarm
« on: July 17, 2019, 07:51:59 AM »
Hi all

I have a 2002 Mercury Optimax 225XL on my boat and the engine is in mint condition...less than 100 hrs.  The other day the oil level on my boat oil tank (not the engine mounted one) ran out and this triggered an alarm.

4 beeps - 2 minute silence - 4 beeps - 2 minute silence...and so on.  Manual says either low oil or dirt/water in the fuel filter.

There is a float in my oil tank and I can see that it is wired and likely goes to the alarm system.  The engine-mounted oil tank was fine and just dropped a little bit but was still over 80% full...and oil is getting to the motor because I checked that.

The oil is now full everywhere, and no air in the engine-mounted tank.  The float in the boat oil tank seems to work (is floating I believe).  I even changed the fuel filter.

The alarm wont go off.

Is there a special way to reset the alarm on my main oil tank with the float (not the engine mounted one).  It has 2 pins sticking out of the screw cap...do they serve a purpose?

Thanks

Phil

The low oil warning is tied to the tank on the engine.  When it goes off, you need to refill the main tank as well as the one on the engine.  So unscrew the cap on the engine tank and top off the oil.  Be careful not to over-tighten the cap on the engine oil tank - lots of folks break the cap with a gorilla grip on the cap!     The alarm will silence once the engine tank is full and you will be good to go.   :thumleft:
