Repowering 1974 19-6 CC

I have been given a hull and I’m almost at the stage now through my project we’re I am ready to paint but am needing to figure out what I’m going to mount on the transom was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions? I am thinking of a Yamaha F130hp but not sure if it will be enough!

Stay as light as you can so the scupper stay above the waterline.
Here is the specs for your boat (your signature says '73 but this thread says '74)

Jesse had a Suzuki DF140 on his 19-6 and was very happy with it.  Motor weighs right at 400 lbs.   I think the Yammie 130 is close to 500.

Yam 115 & 130 are identical weight....400lb.  Going to the 150hp is when the weight jumps up 100lbs.  Yam doesnt produce 130s anymore so only used market is where you'll find those.

Suppose I'll add my 2 cents for suggested hp on a 19'6....many factors to consider of course.  What will be ur standard load, what's the hope'd for top end, jack plate?, new composite transom or original...etc.   Expect to top at mid 30s mph with a 130hp and avg load.  Personally Id hang a 150hp if you've replaced transom w/composite and can shift load a little forward, unless you raised the scuppers.  And if you didn't raise the scuppers but do not intend for self bail, then scupper height doesn't come into play w/considering hp weight.  If you're a shallow water guy and like the idea of 150hp then I'd def hang motor on jack plate.  Good luck!

We sold these new in 1973-1977, a 19-6 with a 135 Evinrude, no power trim, stainless SST 17" pitch, turning 6000 rpm, raised 1" on the transom would run 43-44 mph. This is when outboard horsepower rating was measured at the crankshaft not the gearcase so net HP at the prop was about 121 hp.

Here is some info on OMC engines - maybe this should go in the Engines section? 
The following are typical OMC motors and weights found 80-90s vintage boats. Weights taken from the 1992 Evinrude catalog.

2 cylinder, 521 cc platform, 20/25/30/35 HP
15 inch shaft, rope start -- 115 lbs
15 inch shaft, elec. start -- 118 lbs
20 inch shaft, rope start -- 117 lbs
20 inch shaft, elec. start -- 120 lbs

This bullet proof motor platform had a run from 1976 to ~2005.

2 cylinder 737 cc platform, 40/48/50/55/60 HP
20 inch shaft, elec. start, man. tilt -- 190 lbs
20 inch shaft, elec. start, trim/tilt -- 195 lbs

3 cylinder 849/920 cc platform, 50/60/70 HP

20 inch shaft, elec. start, man. tilt -- 237 lbs
20 inch shaft, elec. start, trim/tilt -- 250 lbs

(This motor used to displace ~849 cc and was about 10 lbs lighter)

V4 1632 cc platform, 85/88/90/100/115 HP

We had a member that had a 70's 19'6 with a 90HP 3 Cyl Tohotsu on it.  I rode in it once and pushed the boat OK with two people but was no speed demon out of the hole.  He re-powered it with a 115 Etec. (not sure if HO or not). Totally transformed the boat.  I saw him ripping past the sandbar in it and it was really moving. 

I have also been on Blueagave's 19'6 many times.  His boat is rebuilt and heavily modified with an einclosed transom, raised deck, flotation bracket and a tower.  He originally had a 200HP 2.5L EFI Merc two stroke on it.  It really moved out of the hole and probably WOT close to 40 or so.  He repowered it with the Merc 3.0L 150HP four stroke.  As four stroked go it is light and only weighed a tad bit more than his 200 two stroke.  It has impressive hole shot for 50 less HP and being a four stroke.  He played around with props but ended up wit the same prop he had on his 200.  Although he has a new prop he is gonna try.

So a 130-150HP would be the best match for that hull.
