its a 200 hp  evinrude, completely empty, without trolling motor batteries, she'd run mid 50's with a 13-1/2x23P OMC Renegade 4-blade turning 4900 rpm. fully loaded she'll run 48-51 mph with a 14-1/4x19P OMC Renegade 4-blade turning 5600 rpm

That mushy transom sounds scary but at least now its easy to dig out. I am digging out wood on a transom that is still pretty solid. Three four inches at a time.

Hello all- I'm a newbie here, but have been following this rebuild thread for a week or so- great stuff!
Now my confusion.

I'm looking to upsize from my '98 175 to a 200 and have been looking in the '96-2000 model years, but the transom thing scares/perplexes me   . I was thrilled to see seabob4 say that AS had been pouring solid isocyanate transoms from a time before he was there….then I see this thread with the deteriorated wood transom on a '96.  So what year, if any, did the 200’s receive poured transoms? My ’98 175 appears to be solid poured….like concrete.  Thanks for the help here....and congrats to Aaron on a great job! Very inspirational!   :thumright:

who knows exactly when the 200's got poured transoms like the rest? when i bought my boat, the transom was pretty dry(damp at the bottom near drain plug/transducer, under scupper, bone dry everywhere else), but it also sat unused in a covered car port for a couple years before i bought it. up until last summer it was kept for the most part outside uncovered, and i would leave her in the water alot at my work or at a friends house. i also used the crap out of the boat, ran her hard, and running a 200hp on a jackplate when she was rated for a 150. i knew it was a matter of time. on the bright side, the more rotten the transom is, the easier it is to remove the mulch

That's a good question Mark.  Seeing as I was in the electrical/motor end of things, and also not on the 175/200 line, I guess I really couldn't say when 200s got poured transoms.  I know the 225s and 245/250s were always poured.

The 200 was sort of a price point boat, so I'm sure some areas were skimped on to keep costs, and therefore prices down...

Thanks for the info. Love my 175, but those extra few feet of the 200 will come in handy. Aaron, I,'m looking forward to future updates & pictures. Aaron, are you gonna put the motor on the new transom or are you building out an extension/platform?

i plan on going with a closed transom and a porta bracket... im not gonna put any money into her just yet, gonna get all the grunt work done which dont cost anything. i'd like to find a 22-2 which my motor and tower would be better suited on... so who knows...
