170 Leaning Post
« on: April 14, 2008, 08:28:15 AM »
Gents,

Help me out, I know someone has installed a leaning post in a 170 rebuild, but can't remember who.  I'm thinking of doing the same but I'm wondering the dimensions of the leaning post (how far apart are the legs) because of the stringers running down either side.

I've got about 27" inside width between stringers so I would have to either get a leaning post to fit inside the stringers so I can put backing plates when I thru bolt or cut out a section of the stringers so the backing plates would fit if the leaning post legs are wider than 27" (hate to do this).

I'm looking at the Florida Suncoast Leaning Post which I'm pretty sure someone recommended because I wrote the name down.

Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated!!

AntiBling,

Looks like your LP is 32" wide, when you mounted the LP to the deck was it directly over top of the stringers??  If so, how did you mount??

Just screw it down and bed the flanges and screws in 4200.  It'll be plenty strong...unless your floor is rotten.   :)
