Osprey 175 toggle switch
« on: September 04, 2018, 11:14:27 AM »
Just purchased a used osprey 175 with Evinrude 90 hp.  Under the ignition switch is a small toggle switch with small decal looks sort of like a propeller symbol.  I asked prev owner (who had boat for six years ) if there was a purpose for this switch.  He said he never used it and didn’t know if it had a purpose or had been disconnected.  Anyone tell me what it’s for and how it’s used.  Have run motor numerous times with muffs on. Motor seems to run fine but can’t tel that toggling the switch does anything.  Haven’t put boat in water yet.  Thanks

Hi Barrond, can you hear anything when you flip the switch (when engine is not running)?

Can you locate where the clicking is coming from? Motors don't usually click - sounds like a relay?

Ok. Clicking sound was just switch itself key turned off.  When key is turned on but motor off I hear nothing but the click sound of the switch itself.  Attached is a picture of the toggle switch I am talking about.  Just below ignition switch.  Thanks

That appears to be the manual choke for the engine.  Take the cowling off the engine and try the switch and listen.

That's exactly what it is. Momentary switch for the choke.

1. Crank the motor, then....
2. Flip the switch and hold. It pumps fuel in the carbs

When the engine lights, release the switch. If she starts to stumble, hit the switch and release. It will give it a shot to keep it running until she warms up.

I miss that little ditty on my 4 stroker.....   Not really. It a 2 stroke thing.  :ScrChin:
