bought a new boat
« on: July 02, 2016, 07:12:57 PM »
picked this boat up from a customer in my marina this week. got it for a steal! hull is a '91 fountain 31te, motors are 2005 250xs's with 114 hrs. overall, the boat is in really good condition, motors need a little work from sitting for a "few" years but overall shouldn't require much work to get them running again. not a fan of the color scheme but it was a deal i couldnt pass up. i put new batteries in and much to my surprise everything works :dance02: all lights, pumps and float switches, both gps and fishfinders, all lights, trimtabs, and both vhf and am/fm/cd radio work!

oh and picked up a 15k lb triple axle trailer from a customer for 1500 bucks!(not the one pictured, thats the shop trailer)

been working on the boat this week, got it fitted to my "new" trailer, and then started cleaning the fuel system. pulled the VST's, cleaned them, and one pump was found to be bad. pumped Sentry through the fuel rails. let everything soak. pulled the spark plugs and sprayed oil in the cylinders, reset the break-in oiling, and did a compression test, 135-140 psi on all 12 cyl. put the plugs back in, reinstalled the good now clean VST on the starboard motor, bled the fuel rails till i saw clean fuel from portable can with sentry mixed in. turned the key and she lit right off!!!! :danceSm: let it run for a half hour and shut it off. transfered the VST to the port motor, re-bled the fuel lines till clean fuel came out. cranked for a bit let it sit 15 minutes, then she fired off.

bought the boat mainly for the motors, the gold powerhead race motors, reviews ive seen on THT, say the top speed should be around 65-68 mph, and 2-2.5mpg between 30-40mph with these motors

no, but the deal couldnt have been passed up!

had the fuel tank cleaned and pumped out today. hardly any water(less than half a pint), and almost no debris, he said if thats the original tank, it apeared to be in VERY good condition, and/pr its been cleaned before. one step closer to being in the water!

Yeah, the colors... Lol

Rick, she gets the same or better mileage than my flat back did with the old 225efi, I averaged 1.9 to 2.2 mpg on a tank, this thing gets 2.25 mpg at 45 mph, that's pretty good for a 31ft center console, and it gets twice the mileage of the 36 contender I use

Seems at cruise it gets around the same as my 230's 250 - and mine doesn't do 45 ;-)

ive been reading a bunch of posts on THT about the 31 fountains, everyone says the same thing, in a chop, they ride better at 40 mph than 30 mph and that proved true yesterday morning. at 30 mph it would kinda fall into the face of the next wave and pound vs at 40+ she's skipping across the tops of the waves and hardly ever pounded. only complaint was bilge access.

we have a possible keys trip planned for later this year with the boat, a friend of mine is running their 33 palmetto down, we may tag along
