Need some advice on 222 Osprey
« on: April 07, 2020, 01:54:50 AM »
Bought the boat this past summer and it’s in fairly good condition. My only issue is that the rear floor is soft from behind the leaning post (right behind the gas tank coffin) and then the step down section to the transom. I’m looking for the best and easiest fix and don’t really know where to begin as seasons right around the corner hopefully and i want to get it fixed. I also have some minor chips out of the gunwale underside that I need to fix. I plan to repaint/gelcoat floor as well as console and then continue my way around the hull. It seems most of the damage was caused by improper sealing of hatches in floor as plywood is damp. Everything else still looks good. I am installing a large 9-24 hatch behind leaning post but would still feel comfortable with some ideas on fixes and support.

Rebuild  with repair will come shortly after. For now I must get ideas as I am overwhelmed and just need answers.

I’m really looking at section repair as an option more then full deck as it seems that those are the 2 places affected by this issue and I’d like to keep it that way.

Pictures will come asap when I remember to take them hopefully tomorrow.

If you do a cutout and patch, it'll be hard to tie the patch into everything without a ton of fairing to finish it. And as you said, it's only temporary anyway.

Yeah, I’d rather do this and then rip everything out later when I have the time and be able to do the whole boat at once. Thanks, just ordered epoxy so hopefully it comes soon. Been taking advantage of the bad times to really get work done on this boat.

Hey man, It looks like we are in a similar situation with similar boat. Have you decided on a repair methodology? I have one soft spot on my 222 Osprey and the same chips under the gunwale. Where are those photos!!? ;)

I went with the injections on my boat. Will be doing flood hopefully next year after this season. Took it out last season and wasn’t thrilled about how much water comes in scuppers so I will need to go to the drawing board on that whether I raise floor level a little or put self closing ones.
