The Hull sides are getting close to fair.  I have a few small low spots to fill and I need to fair in a consistent curve where the hull sides round up into the shear.

I tried out a new tool.  Its a spreader from FlexiSander that I saw on Boat Works Today on YouTube.  The tool is a flexible aluminum plate on a handle.  It flexes consistently and applies uniform pressure on compound curves.  After filling and fairing the obvious imperfections, I used a standard plastic spreader to put a thin layer to the hull side.  Then, I drew the tool down the hull side removing excess fairing compound.  The excess compound was spread too , so it went further.  After cure, I used the long board to knock down the highs.  A second fill and sand brought things close. I'm still getting the feel for tool, so it wasn't as magic as the FlexiSander Video.  Even so, I'm using less fairing compound, and spending less time pushing the longboard.  They make sanders that look good too, but they're expensive.  The spreader was around $100, so I chose to use my homemade long board instead.

The results look promising.  Compared to the bottom, I used less compound and spent less time doing the hard labor part.  I think the spreader will pay for itself with the savings from wasted compound.

Sweet!! I saw a video a few years back where a guy was using something similar to apply fairing and then another to sand - these looked very expensive though. Hey, whatever saves you time and arm muscle energy.

Looking good. I saw the same video where he unboxed all those goodies I never checked the prices though. $100 for a tool that saves you that much money is a no-brainer, especially when you keep the labor down too.

Scrap foam ripped to width works well for making blocks too. Keeps nice fair contact with the hull. And you can play with different sizes/thicknesses til ya find what works

My hull sides are fair and primed.  I've got some pin holes to fill, but I should have her painted sometime this weekend.  I'm switching to spray for the hull exterior, so I picked up a cheap Harbor Freight gun, and put together a spray system.  Knock on wood, I hope things go well.

I had best results with a HF gun.  Good luck buddy - this weekend is supposed to be nice.

It's been a busy week.  I applied a tracer coat to the hull sides and sanded the primer down to 320.

After all the prep was complete, I sprayed the hull sides with Quantum 2 Part Polyurethane in Kingston gray.  The first coat was encouraging.  Then a few bugs and some detritus from trees found its way into the still tacky paint.  Oh well, I always knew that, not having a clean space to paint, would be a limitation.  After 3 coats of topcoat.  I'll have some areas to repair, but it is what it is.  I still plan on assembling the team and flipping the hull Sunday.  I'll still be able to make some repairs, and if necessary, I could still sand hull sides down to 320 and reshoot.

She is right side up and on the trailer.  I have some paint repairs and touch ups, but overall she looks pretty good.

There was a point when the boat came over kind of fast.  Everything held together, but I'll need to replace one of my 1/2" U-Bolt transom eyes.
