250 Osprey
« on: October 05, 2016, 06:15:47 PM »
Greetings and salutations all,

Usual issues with my 2001 250 master angler. This was the year for all new electronics (Radar, fish finder, GPS, displays, radio) isinglass and then my 2001 225 Merc saltwater EFI decides it's had enough and wants to go its separate ways..

So the questions are...

Has anyone had contact with Aquasport in relation to the transom rating? How much wiggle room is there over 300 hp?

I fish offshore SW of Long Island and every fall around the Cape, MV, Nantucket and the Elizabeth islands for the Derby.

So I'm wondering if I could hang 2, 175's or stay with twin 150's?

Thank to all.

Depends on if your talking two strokes or four strokes. I have seen twin 200s. 175 two strokes would be fine.... but will your insurance company like it....  also twin 150s will push it to 50 mph. Also if you have a single now you have a drop notch in the transom. Twins did not have the notch so you will need to have the transom modified.

Right now I am looking at evinrude 2 stroke etecs.

Unless there are better options out there.

I finally decided to go with a single, not wanting to cut the transom.

250 seahorses ready for the season.

My mechanic was saving the engine for a project he never got around to doing.

2007 engine with 280 hours, that hasn't seen water in 3 years.

The whole smash, installed with Smart Craft gauges for 12k, I couldn't pass on.

You should see 43-45 MPH WOT with that motor depending on prop ETC.  Cruise at 30-35 mph
