From what I can tell, the rub rail should be stretched when mounted to be done correctly. I don't think replacing a section of it will have satisfactory results. I think it is kind of an all-or-nothing kind of deal.

You can replace a section of the base. The insert has to be fully replaced. The gray insert is no longer available, you can only get white or black. Also you do not want to stretch the insert when you install it. The reason is over time it will shrink making it pull out of the inside corners at the base of the pulpit.

Search is your friend:

Taco is who made your rubrail: http://tacomarine.com/category/rubrail/Rub-Rail
The style numbers for the semi rigid vinyl bas and insert are below

FYI here is the rubrail used on your boats.  It is the 9501 with the 0303 insert.  You can order the insert in black or white from Taco.  It looks like there is a new V12-307 chrome insert that will fit your rubrail as well.

Here is another source you can try:

If you have not completed the project, I just picked up 60' of a darker grey from Marine Connector Liquidators in Ft. Pierce.  It is called Whaler Grey and they have several 250' spools.  I have a 1999 225 Explorer and I replaced all the original with the new.  The darker grey actually looks good and provides a nice contrast.
