83 28-6 XF Throttle problem
« on: April 16, 2017, 09:53:49 AM »
I am having a problem with my port side motor 260 series. Motor runs great up to 3000-3300 rpm's, at that point i can go to full throttle and rpm's will not go any higher. The carb linkage still moves but doesn't seem to be getting any more fuel. I have a new carb, but no difference. Could it be a  mechanical fuel pump issue or possibly fuel line? Stbd motor runs fine, and they are on separate tanks . Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 Thank You

Ordinarily, I would look toward a clogged carb jet, but that is ruled out if it does the same thing with a different carb.  It could be a kink in the fuel line or a fuel pump issue.  Before you shell out $100 for a new fuel pump, check for a possible air leak at the connections upstream of the pump.  Check the filter/separator too - the fuel pump will suck air before it sucks gas, and a small air leak upstream can cause the problem you are experiencing.

If you find everything is tight and there is no chance for a leak, you are likely looking a a new fuel pump.   :682:
